Ron -
Its a jack block. A block of wood reinforced with metal straps at each end and in the middle. Paint it natural wood and the straps metallic gray or tne hull color of yuor Tiger.
Post some pics when you get it done. Happy modeling,
Mark

Or, replace it with a chunk of real wood detailed with some lead foil straps.

i agree it is the jack box as well. you can also paint it red brown or a dark earth color. most units just painted it with the hull color anyway.

There are many ways to paint it. It depends on how worn you want the Tiger to be. The crews didn't waste time with removing loose objects before painting, so if its a newly painted Tiger it would be the same color as the hull, the more worn the tank, the more paint would be worn of the jack block.

Yeah, the Aber "Super Tiger Set" has a little piece of wood in it for the block. They used balsa, but I think I'd use a different wood to get a different grain. Good luck.
