Sharpie/Marker Road Wheels?
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, April 15, 2004 7:43 PM
Hi All, I thought about posting this in Techniques but figured I'd have better luck here. So we'll see. I'm wondering, has anyone tried Prismacolor markers on their road wheels?

I use Sharpies all the time and love them. Just takes a hit of dull coat with the rest of the tank to get rid of the shine.

i have used sharpies before on a T-34 and a Hummel and it does give a purplish tint to the road wheel's edges. i'll try dull coating them next time.

I have found that that is the secret to using Sharpies. Dullcoating them after they dry is the way that I have had the best success with it. So far I haven't seen the purple.

I think I'll still stick with handpainting them.

Purple ??? ..... Can't say that I've ever had that happen.

I use 2 different sizes of Sharpies for doing road wheels. First the wheels are painted whatever the base coat is ... in my case ... usually O.D. Then the Sharpies come into play. And then a dullcoat.

But purple !!! ..... nah

Happy Modelling and God Bless Robert

Forgot about the purple. Maybe because I have never had it show up either that was noticable anyway.

I tried the sharpies, my execution s---ed so I went back to hand painting. I will try again when I get a chisel point marker. For the record: my Panther was Sharpied and the purple went away after dull coating.

Thanks Everyone, I noticed the purplish tint also and didn't have a chance to go to Office Depot for the correct masks so I could AB. (one thing Wally World doesn't have!) Anyway, I found some Prismacolor markers in the garage (just about every color you can imagine) The sticker price on them is 2.99 each. Kinda pricey, but I used black last night and not very much purple at all! I think they turned out great. Well I still have to do the outer edge but the sides look good. After weathering and future coats I think they'll be excellent. As excellent as my skills permit them to. lol They also have two points. A fine tip on one end and a marker tip on the other. My brother-in-law used to use them in college for his computer animation classes. You guys should try them. I'll post some pics if I ever get the time to learn how to use the digi. This weekend probably. -SpencerApprove [^]
