You are right, during normal routine maintenance, entire sides of track are replaced at once and probably all the same style. But if a few blocks are bad and need to be replaced because the tank "threw track" or ran over a mine, you would get what was available to keep your vehicle rolling. Even if you had to take it off an inoperable tank or get two or three track blocks given to you off of other vehicle's spare track racks.
