Another M1 Abrams trivia question!
Posted by ZaimV on Monday, May 17, 2021 5:58 AM

Hi everyone. Since you guys were able to answer my first question (thanks!!!) maybe you can answer this other one.

What is the angle of the sloped rear part of the Abrams the exhaust  grills are mounted to? Is it called the transom? I have seen plans that show it to be 6 degrees but then others say 5 degrees and that's what I measured on a diagram from an ancient XM1 manual. And an old modeller told me he worked at Chrysler until it became General Dynamics. He said the angle was 5 degrees although maybe it changed by one degree with new variants? That doesn't seem likely but then again what would I know? Big Smile

So if you have the answer please let me know. Thanks like always!

In my world, 1 degree is something I'm not going to fret about, keeping in mind that it's within measurement error from vertical or horozontal.

Hi! Yeah one degree isn’t going to keep me awake either! Big Smile

But it would be quite nice to know if it is 5 or 6 degrees or even something different. I took a closer look at the drawings that show it as 6 and I realised there are a few errors in the dimensions and angles here and there. What I mean is they don’t always add up right. So possibly the 6 degrees angle is also off?
