Tips On Painting M26 Pershing Vinyl Tracks?

I've had great results with either Krylon or Rust-Oleum "fusion" spray paints.

Ultra Flat Black looks like factory fresh tracks. I weather from there.

I painted the Tamiya M41 vinyl tracks (with Tamiya paint) and most of it flaked right off. Since then I use adhesion promoter and have not had that problem. You can get it from the auto parts store. I use duplicolor. 

Similar here, but I stick to acrylics on all the glueable plastic one piece tracks, Tamiya and Dragon. I have had Tamiya tracks harden and break when painted with emanels.

If the tracks are black vinyl, then after painting them brown like Rob said you could also lightly sand the outer rubber pads to reveal the black vinyl underneath - this gives a nice worn surface that looks a lot like real rubber.

It's a challenge to find paints that would really stick to the vinyl... On one track I had a good hit with MM metalizer, on other track it had a tendency to peel off :-( MM paints are no more, anyway... Some people say to go with Gunze C-series paints - sounds like it could work, didn't try it yet...

I pinned mine the same as Rob does, I basecoated with Tamiya Dark Iron XF-84, then I used different pigments and washes.

Out of an abundance of caution  I stick with acrylic products just in case on the tracks..

I pin the vinyl tracks to a piece of cardboard so they look like a pair of snake skins drying.

I spray paint them with an earth brown vinyl spray paint that I get from Walmart. I do both sides. If it is the type of tracks with rubber pads, I paint the rubber track blocks a darker gray color. I then give them an acrylic wash to bring out some detail and then use some silver or metallic gray to highlight some spots of worn metal on the guide teeth and where the sprocket would rub along the track end connectors.

I spray them with a clear coat. Make sure you use paint that is designed to be used on vinyl.
