Rye Field 1/35 Panther Auf F - What it 1946/7 scheme
Posted by robw_uk on Saturday, January 22, 2022 1:01 PM

OK, so have, in the past built Panzers i-IV so now for a V. Decided on the RFM Panther Ausf F as I wanted to use the night vision on a what-if Super Pershing at some point. Not 100% certain how this will  end up. It WILL be what-if paint (like the amusing hobby Jagdpanther II scheme (dunkelgelb with white angled stripes) but may do some of it in factory undercoat with white markings. I will also look at additional armour (a least the usual panther stuff on the wheels, maybe also anti air screens and possibly even on the turret.....

so this will be the first of 2 (the Super Pershing will be the second) 1946/7 what if where Allies + Germany were facing the unstoppable USSR who continued to fight at the end of the war....

so far the 2 sides done

A Panther F and a Super Pershing would have been an interesting combo.

Look forward to seeing this. I have the Dragon Ausf F in the stash, will be nice to see how this RFM kit compares.

There are AM sets for that night vision equipment, but then who need's an excuse to buy a Panther.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

yep, I saw the AM sets, saw this (and the Trumpeter E-50/E-100 - maybe more of these for later) and thought - I deserve to build a Panther!!!

after a number of discussions, I decided that only "odd shaped" parts were cast... so these have been coated in Mr Surfacer 500. Hull is just placed on for now....

a fair chunk of progress... the major components on the hull and turret are now done and I have one run of tracks done (they are workable). As you know, I love adding just a little extra so have done some mesh screens (turret and main engine deck vent)... think they work OK...

build finished..... added an extra set of spare tracks on the turret.... still not 100% decided on a paint scheme... might be "giraffe" style dunkelgelb and green (or brown) hull and then red oxide turret....

Looks good! Always good to see something ready for paint.

Sometimes I trace out a couple copies from the instruction sheet and colour them in with coloured pencils to see which one I like best.

Basic paint on -

Dunkelgelb with mottled lighter shades for the hull (still need to work on the camo scheme, just faded green I think)

red oxide primer and one mottled shade for the hull (also have one wheel and one rear stowage bin like this)

ash grey and one shade mottle for barrel

Lookin' good! You've got the rough and 'pushed out the door' look going there on the turret.

The chalkmarks on the turret look really good! That's something I still haven't tried- the primer with the construction marks still on it. It's a neat look and I'm looking forward to seeing where you take it.

I've heard about Soviet tanks being driven right out of the factory to the front line in the Battle of Moscow but never seen any photos of them. Not sure if it's just an urban legend or not. That's something I'd thought about trying to do.
