Stupid question maybe - 1/35 locomotive kits
Posted by DanR1967 on Thursday, March 3, 2022 5:25 PM

All,

As Herbert Garrison once said, "there are no stupid questions, just stupid people," so allow me to proceed... in regards to the plethora of German rail subjects out there from Trumpeter, Dragon, and Hobby Boss, among others, does anyone know if there is any consistency in the track that they use? I'm thinking that since Hobby Boss is (I believe) an offshoot of Trumpeter, their track segments may be identical, but I don't know if the same applies for Dragon. At the very least, has anyone crossed kits over, meaning will a Dragon or Hobby Boss kit's wheels scale properly and sit on a Trumpeter track with no obvious gaps or fit issues?

Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

Dan

I've built two of the Trumpeter kits and would also assume Hobby Boss is an exact fit but have never done a Dragon kit. You get a section of rail that's just under a yard long consisting of several track bed sections, ties that fit into the bed from the bottom and rails that slide into place (but not easily). When done it looks reasonably good. I'd love to see someone come out with some new train kits.

Hi Jeff - I was poking around at 1999.co.jp/eng and I can see that you're right about Hobby Boss and Trumpeter. They are using the same track. Dragon's is different and Mini Art goes even further by having different gauges for Russian track. In the end, I was more curious if the cars all sit the same across brands, since Trumpeter sells track separately, so the only issue would be adjusting the car's wheels to fit properly.
