Great T-34 footage movie
Posted by okieboy on Wednesday, April 21, 2004 8:12 AM
Hey All,

I watched the movie "Cross of Iron" the other day. Gotta say that if you're looking for footage of the Russian T-34, or variants thereof, this movie's got it.
Not a bad war flick either.

Zokissima, there is a thread about accurate war movies in the Off Topic forum. That might give you some ideas.

i imagine "cross of iron" will never be that popular stateside because it's eastern front and has no US connection[:0]. personally i think it's a great movie, and recommend all to give it a goWink [;)].

There is also a German movie called 'Stalingrad' made in 1992 in which you can also find T-34s in it. Although the T-34s were T-34/85 rather than T-34/76, it was a great movie. The movie is available in VHS & DVD and you may find it in Blockbuster. BTW, can anyone remember a 1970 Russian movie called "The Great Battle'? My fading memory recalls that there were T-34/76 on it, it was about battle on Kursk.

Anthony, the T-34's in Stalingrad are cool, aren't they? And they move so slowly that you get a good look at them. Tongue [:P] They act like the Germans slipped them a mickey.

Don't forget that there are lots of other movies with T-34's in them -- including every recent movie with a Tiger! Laugh [(-D]

Cross of Iron is a great movie. Good story too.
James Coburn makes an ok soldier. Better in this than "A walk in the Sun"

Stalingrad is a great movie. Glad you also enjoy it. In fact, the producers of 'Stalingrad' produced another movie called 'Das Boot' ten years earlier. It was about a German U-boat(sorry no armour stuff there), but it is the best submarine movie I ever watched, possibly the best submarine movie ever made. The portrays of human characters were excellent.

The movie you mention about T-34/85 moving against German line in winter, 'Stalingrad' has a scene like that. It was about those German soldiers were transferred to front line after they failed to pretend as wonded soldiers to get evacuated. They fought the Russian with anti-tank guns and Molotove cocktails. One gruesome scene was that a German soldier had his lower body blown away.

Stalingrad was a pretty cool movie with some good action scenes. I never really watched Cross of Iron all the way through, will have to rent it soon.
