Thanks Tom. A little pressure of time constraint went a long way into making for a fun rapid project.

Beautiful work, especially considering the time restraints you were under.  Congrats on competing this wonderful build.

Indy tracks are never a quick path... Sad Talk about a major speed bump in those...

Actually I did attempt a quick, cheap, and dirty build with the HobbyBoss T-50. Pretty simple kit out of the box and things went well till I got to the tracks. They're the indy link type and tiny- about  5mm by 14mm.  I think I spent about three times as long on them as the model itself... Dead

Hopefully I'll have the darn base done and it posted here by the end of the month...

John & Gamera, thanks for your kind feedback. You guys should try to do a 12 hour project yourselves sometime. It's pretty fun and sure makes you focus.

Hard to  believe you can put out a quality model like that the short time frame.

Thanks,

So here it is, completed at roughly the 11 hours, 45 minutes point, my entry into the So Cal AMPS 12 hours build challenge. Many entered, only a few crossed the finish line….

Not bad for 12 hours ;)

Thanks Tony. The last four hour session is this afternoon, so I should have the completed 12 photos up tomorrow.

Joe, I can't recommend Value Gear stowage enough. I really like their more generic universal sets of stuff, so I can use that on most any armor type build, as opposed to vehicle specific stuff.

Gamera, Im happy to hear that you like this one and how it's looking now. Stay tuned for when it goes into full color. Wink

Looks great SP!

The black primer makes her look straight out of B&W newsreel footage of the period!

Thanks for the info, I'd never heard of Value Gear, they have some really cool accessories.

Joe, the stowage, aside from the jerry cans, is Value Gear resin, and all I did was simply glue it into place with the straps at some of the engine deck tie down points, so yeah, it's tied down in that manner. Nothing fancy, but it looks the part

Russel, I'm sure you could probably do a 12 hour build. The tricks are kit selection, sticking to a mostly OOB style, and not getting distracted by AMS urges...

I'm still blown away by the 12 hour time limit, and the fact that you can build a good model in that timeframe. I don't think I have the DNA.

Wow, I already love it!

Is the kit tied down on the back part of the model? If so that is an amazing detail and really a nice touch that my old Revell/Monogram trained eyes are weeping over.

If you cobbled that together or scratch built it - Dang! Well done.

Thank you John. Between the light box and having a basic understanding of how to better use my phone camera, I can take decent photos now.

Since our second 4 hour build session was cut off an hour early, we had a “floater” 1 hour session to take at our own choice. I did mine today, adding some stowage items, then airbrushing on a coat of Mig One Shot Black Primer over everything

So next session will be on May 28 when I finish this thing up…

Thanks Gamera. I'm trying not to get too many projects going at once. I know what you mean about focusing and not getting too spread out.

Hehe, I COULD get one built in a month or so- I did with the KV-I I posted here. I tend to get too scatter-brained and work on a dozen or so kits at once. If I concentrated on one I could move much faster.

Great job you're got on her SP. I built the standard tank version years ago. It goes together pretty darn well. Looking forward to more!

AA tanks do have a look. Between the turrets sprouting multiple guns, sights, and other features, they do tend to look more menacing than standard gun tanks. And for ground personell and light armor or soft skin targets, the AA tanks are quite deadly.

Looks great!  I really like those self propelled AA (name?).   Tamiya makes that kit in 1/48 .   I did the gephard ages ago.  Don't know why but they're kinda my favorite armor pieces.

Thanks,

John

Gamera

Cool! I can't build a model in twelve monthes- good luck!!!

I bet you could. It's all in kit selection and planning. You could do it!

Todays build session was cut to three hours, with the caveat to use the cut hour on your own (honor system) or add it to the next session. I’m gonna do the hour on my own separate from next session. Anyways today I completed all of the assembly, which was basic lyn the turret, the tracks, and all sorts of fussy little bits on the hull… Basic construction completed in seven hours!

so for my free floating hour I’ll sand those putty spots on the turret, and get the whole thing coated with some Ammo One Shot primer. That will leave my next four hour session free to do regular painting and markings.

Joe & Tony, thanks!

Joe, there actually is a prize. At the end of the challenge, we all vote for who wins, and a gift certificate goes to the winner.

Tony, yup, it's all done on Zoom. And yes, it's a four hour build session. Have your work area prepped with all you think you'll need in that session ready!

So you have to build it while others are watching you on Zoom?

You have to work 4 hours straight on the model?

Thats interesting

That sounds like a fun challenge and you have an excellent start - I like your subject too, that's very cool looking piece of armor with a nice level of detail.

Is their any judging or prizes, or 100% just for the fun of it?

Keep us posted and good luck.

12 Hour Build Challenge, 1/35 Crusader III AA ***COMPLETED***
Posted by stikpusher on Sunday, March 27, 2022 6:58 PM

Well, it’s that time of year again. Yup, time for the So. Cal. AMPS 12 Hour Online Build challenge. Build a model from start to finish during three four hour onlune Zoom sessions. This year had a bit of twist, the builder selects three options from their stash, and the rest of the participants vote as to which one of the three you get to build. Choose your three carefully.

This year I put up the Tamiya 1/35 Gama Goat, the Monogram 1/32 Panzer IV, and what won the vote, Italeri’s 1/35 Crusader III AA Mk.IIII.

so yesterday we built for four hours, and in that time I was able to complete steps 1 thru 7, which is pretty much the hull & suspension, and get partway thru Step 8, starting on the 20mm Oerlikon guns

next session in later April, I plan to get the build completed, and hopefully the primer coat on.
