Would like opinion on these armor kits
Posted by Thuntboss on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 2:08 PM

The kits I'd like good/bad opinions on are:

1/35 Academy's German King Tiger "last production"

1/35 Airfix Panzer 4 Ausf H "mid version"

1/35 Airfix Tiger 1 "early version"

1/35 Airfix Jagdpanzer 38T Hetzer "late version"

1/35 Airfix Panther Ausf G.

Decent quality? Decent accuracy? Are there better kits for comparable $, etc ?

Thanks, Jon

I'm not 100% sure on this but I believe that those Airfix kits are reboxed Academy kits.  I have both the Academy Tiger I and Academy Hetzer kits, though I haven't built them yet, the parts do look very crisp and well detailed.  I have built some other Academy armor kits and they were alright.  Better than Italeri or Heller but not as good as Tamiya or Takom.   Good luck with those kits.

If you check on Scalemates.com, you can find the lineage of each kit and if they are reboxed Academy kits. If they are, most of the new Academy kits are pretty decent, but being better than or worse than Tamiya or Italeri kits is a rather broad brush, as each company has some kits that are better than the other company's kits. Now Heller and Takom on the other hand... Wink

Thanks for the input. My local modeling shop has these so think I'll pick them up. They'll be my 1st armor kits in about 40 years.   Regards, Jon
