That's a powdered pigment called Viet Nam earth is all it is. Just brush it on. It's an exact match to the dirt I remember best.

Looks cool Glenn!!! I need to study how you and Pawel do it to get decent looking Vietnam mud and dirt for my own stuff.

BTW: Have you tried punching a bunch of pinholes in the decals and then flooding it with decal softener? Or sometimes putting gloss paint on it and letting it seep in behind the decal works too.

Howdy Glenn!

Nice to see one of those gun trucks being built! I have one in stash, hop to buiild it one day... I also have AFV Clubs M35A2 - I'd like to backdate it to its Vietnam appearance.

Thanks for sharing and have a nice day!

Paweł

Looks like it came out pretty nicely.  Is that the AFV Club 1/35 "Nancy" guntruck kit?

One pointer, AFV Club got the gunmount wrong.  The gunmount was not mounted directly to the floor like on an M16 halftrack.  They were actually M55 Gunmounts (M45 guns on an M20 trailer) and the trailer was placed in the bed.  The weight of the trailer and gunmount was enough to hold them in place.

Interesting link, thanks. I only caught the tail end of one once and the tailgate was up so couldn't see much. Yes it is the AFV Nancy. The 50's came with some warped barrels so I bought these 50's instead. I tell ya I don't want to make a habit of pin drilling machine guns to glue in the correct barrel and even at that I don't think they are the correct ones.

This kit ordered a little over a year ago sat half done forever but it must be an improved mold over that guys on that link. I had none of those massive pin marks that I recall. In building this I did come across some beautifully detailed bendable link belts but they were on back order.

I could have pulled my hair out at having forgotten to spray gloss on before decaling! The silvering is horrendous. Also found out aluminum foil worked pretty good for mirrors in a pinch.
