Scratchbuilt Armor Group Build
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, April 24, 2004 11:43 AM
Hello everyone, I decided to start a scratchbuilt/ kitbashing GB. The Rules: If your scratchbuilding you have to make everything form scratch exept AM treads or treads from a kit are allowed. Any PE is allowed, but no AM detail kits. You can make your tank out of any material, any scale and use any PE. The whole point of this GB is to show off your skill and your creativity. If AM kits are used, then it cheats your own skill, so thats why their not allowed. Progress pics are a must in this GB, so we can see how the scratchbuilding is coming along. If you want to kitbash then you must post a pic(s) of what your starting out with and of course some pics of the finished product would be awsome too.Big Smile [:D] The Patch: I can make the patch, or if you want to volunteer to make the patch then that is perfectly fine with me. Ideas and imput would be helpful on what the patch should be, whether I'm making it or someone volunteered. This might take some time (espicially with complex or big-scale projects) so imput on the dates would be greatCool [8D]! If your intrested or want to join, just tell me and your name will be on the list. Thanks!Cool [8D]

Im sorry I can't make your list longer.
Its a good idea and I hope your get some support, but its a bit to much for my skills.
BTW I like the Tiger you have chosen as todays Tiger, I have thought about building it as a model for a long time........but im not going to scratchbuilt it.

Sadly, this is one build I'll have to sit out. Hope you get it off the ground, looking forward to some interesting builds.

I think you are giving up a bit to soon.
Wait a couple of days and see what happens.

Allright, I'll leave it up, but I don't know if it's going to work. How do I delete a topic I made? I know how to delete a post in a topic, but if nobody wants to do it how could I get rid of it? Or do I just leave it? Thanks.

QUOTE: What if we make the PE ourselves???

Umm, what do you mean? Can you make your own or do you mean take basic multi-purpose PE and make it for what you want it to do? If you do that then it's fine, but I don't want people buying AM PE sets for their subject, but if you get multipurpose PE and make it do what you want it to do than thats fine.

As it so happens, I have access to a microelectronics processing lab. Creating a pattern, masking, and etching is something I have already done and could easily do again. However I have never etched brass, but it is almost the same process that I have done several times before.

So, I would be making my own PE parts. BUT, while we are on the topic, what about sets like the Aber clamp set? It has nothing but clamps, would this be acceptable?

You could always increase the rules to include kitbashing, taking two or more kits and combining them into a new, different vehicle.

Edog:
I'll change it to allow any PE because if your going to scratchbuild you should probably make it look good.
Rob:
I'll allow kitbashing and maybe that will bring the numbers of recruits up.

Any armor from any period is allowed in any scale made of anything and PE is allowed, but AM detail sets are not allowed. Kitbasing is allowed, but pics would be nice to show everyone what your starting out as and end pics to show the final thing.
Now what about start/finish dates? I know we got a ton of GB's going on right now, so it all depends on what you guys want. Maybe we should start in a couple weeks once we get more people and end it in about 5-6 months?

When I read this, the Mk I or Mk II male came to mind. What a great way to get going on a project I've been avoiding for years... but always wanted to do. If I'm still in country, I'm in!! Let the list go for a while. I think Rob's idea was also valid.. Kitbashing is the first step to total scratchbuilding... of course I do have a 1/24 scale M3 Stuart (the right scale for a Stuart!) about 1/3 of the way done... maybe finish that?? Or an FT-17. 1/24 scale or larger... or maybe.... (!)

Wow, what a great idea for a GB. Don't know if I'll be up to this one though, as my..ahem...skills in scratchbuilding are somewhat lacking. I do have a question though. I've always wanted to kitbask a few existing kits into an imaginary 'what if' AFV. Would this be allowed, or do you have to model an existing (or previously existing) vehicle?

I can allow futuristic or non-made tanks, as long as the roll on the ground. The whole point is to be creative, I so I will allow imaginary tanks to be made, but progress pics will be needed.

Good stuff then. Not going to commit yet, as the requirement of pics really puts me off, since I don't have a digi cam. But maybe by summer I'll get one, and if I do, I just might go in on this, as it's a really cool idea Smile [:)]
