I was actually thinking about it myself. I made an idea to take the built model and mount it on your dio base. After that get some very fine earth-toned powder-a lot of it. Also get a display case that goes totally around the dio base and it can't have a lid on the top. You'd also need some clear acylic stuff-almost like future, but an acrylic material made to be see-through and poured into a contaner. THIS WOULD TAKE A LOT OF TIME!!! pour a little layer of the acylic stuff and sprinkle some of that fine earth dust in it. keep going up the dio, layering in very thin layers as you go, sprinkling fine powder in all the time. After doing this, it'll mean you can never get your tank back again, and the whole dio would be a cube of acrylic, but it might work. I've never done it, just kept thinking about it untill I came of with something possible...

Only thing I can think of is to create a diorama box, and put a sheet of glass or plastic over the front, on which you could possibly airbrush on the smoke.

That may or may not look all that good. In the end, I think the answer to your question is, you don't.

dust and smoke and flames are nearly impossible to simulate, I have asked for ideas on all of them. I tried painting cotton as dust, but it didn't look really good. for smoke I'm using a smoke generator for smoke in a burning vehivle.

For a permanent dio that would be a tough one. If you're photographing, you could try a Shep Payne trick (real smoke). Mount the camera and diorama with the tail end up (sideways), but right side up in the camera's view finder, blow some smoke into the suspension with a straw and let it drift upward... or to the rear of the veicle. As it does, photograph the piece. Might work. Might not. Just thoughts.

How would I go about simulating dust in the air?
here is what I mean

I'm basicly looking to see if this could be done in a dio?
If so what would be needed and how to go about it.
