M49A2C fuel tanker questions

Both are correct, sort of.  The original M49 Fuel Truck was initially fielded in 1950 along with the other trucks of the M35 family.  The M49A2C was a later version that was introduced about 1969 and used up through the early '90s in some units.

Do you know what the difference between the M49 and the M49A2C?

Read the Wiki article on the M35.  The A2 has the bigger LD-465-1 engine, and other engines, and the C shows that they were converted from drop side cargo units.

To expound on the above, the original M49 and M49A1 had a different bed (M34 based bed), gas engines, and either a 4-speed or 5-speed manual transmission.  They also had an exhaust pipe that went down the right side frame and exited between the rear wheels.

The M49A2/M49A2C had a multifuel engine, a 5-speed manual transmission, and an exhuast stack coming up through the right front fender.  The A2 versions also had the larger NATO front turn signals and tail lights added.
