my start in armor...........
Posted by M1abramsRules on Tuesday, April 27, 2004 4:56 PM
I think this is my first attraction to armor.............. this is my bicycle-mounted cardboard tank that I "drove" in the local parade when I was 5. my dad made it for me. It was really neat, but I remember it being hard to pedal with all the extra weight.

It got thrown out as there was no room in the house or garage and the rain wouldn't have been kind to it outside, bit it was cheap enough to make. Dad would have gotten the cardboard from the place he worked (lots of big boxes), and he put training wheels on the tank to steady it, I think it was attached to the bike with wire ties, which he also would have gotten at work, we have lots of spray paint hanging around, so paint was no problem.

You're still Chris, are you refering to the cute or the little? Both? the cute could have been a by-product of the military hardware, something about a military man...Evil [}:)]Approve [^]

Looks cool. Just what I need for motivation. I am planning to convert a motorized jeep for kids to a greyhound when my baby boy comes out this June. He-he-he.

He probably have to wait for two years to use it. Oh well, maybe a tank baby carriage would be good for a start.

That would introduce him to the darkside well enough.

This reminds me of that Hummer add a few months ago where the kid builds the H2 go cart - Chris, you could literally blow your competition away with this baby!

I believe you are referring to the Merkava (Hebrew for "Chariot" if I am not mistaken)

Chris,

That's AWESOME! You have a cool Dad! I have a photo of me with my 'first' tank, which was actually owned by a contruction company. I'll scan it in and post it on Ron's site later today.

I think it bears a resemblance to an e-100 or Maus!

I wrote this first as a new topic, but then thought why trash up the site with another thread?

Chris (as usual) had a great idea there, with photos of his first tank. My first tank (to actually go inside of and play around) was owned by a local construction company. An M3A3 Stuart kept stateside during WWII for training, then sold surplus after the war for $500. It was sold when these photos were taken for $2000 in 1967... too bad I didn't have the $$ back then!
I wasn't bright enough to make my own beyond a 'fridge box...

Not to steel Chris' thunder, but what a cool idea to show one's 'first' tank!

Mine is at Ron's site http://rongeorge.com/modules/Gallery/upload?page=4
Again, I can't download from his site so any help would be appreciated.

The best thing about Chris' tank is that it was HIS! This one, I had to go five miles to play in. Oh well.

Maybe others can post their first tank with Chris, if he doesn't mind, of course!
