At the Dragon site's Shuzuoka Hobby Show update section, it has that pic with this caption:

Karl Gerät 040/041 w/ Railway Unit

Check it out at :

Am I nuts, or has Trumpeter had this same kit announced for a while now?

Yes ! Karlgerat with the rail transport set and the PzIV Munissionschlepper is included in the box too! I wonder what the size of the box is, something like Heller HMS Victory, I suppose.

TY for the links.
QUOTE: Am I nuts, or has Trumpeter had this same kit announced for a while now?

I believe you are correct.

EDIT: Looking at their site and noticed that a lot of the Sd. Kfz. 250 kits (probably others too) are not avaliable in Japan. Why is this?

It's 1/35th scale. We've actually discussed this a couple of times here in previous threads. Yup, it's been announced forever, but now it's coming. Very cool. As far as I know, it's all plastic. I posted a link to some pictures of the master for the kit, and it seemed to be all plastic. (Don't know about the gun barrel, though.)

Anyway, I'm glad I held off on the Dragon one. This one has the transport cars and it's probably more detailed, at least if the K5 comparison holds true to the Morsers too.

From what I recall, both kinds of Morser will be buildable from one kit. Oh, and I think the carrier is a separate kit from the vehicle itself, which if true means you can use the Trumpeter carrier along with the Dragon gun. I don't think the gun would mind, particularly if the carriers are not portrayed attached to the vehicle (this might actually explain the delay -- mebbe Trumpeter wanted to be sure its carriers were completely compatible with the Dragon gun).

Don't quote me on any of this though!

The carrier and the gun are listed on some sites as separate kits, so I would provisionally say, JAWOHL!

Good Lord. You could keep the box to use as a trundle bed. Now if it were 1/144... are the panzer corps sets available in the US??

What I hope is that they issue the PzIV Munissionschlepper as a separate kit just becouse the Karlgërat has many pitfals. The article in AFV modeller by David Parker is second to none and the amount of work he had is quiet a bad mood in a $75 kit. When I compare Dragon and Trumpeter Leopolds I just hope Trumpeter will continue that trend of ultramegahyper detailled kits. But we may be talking about models that has a total of 1500 parts. I guess we have plastic just to tack and glue until Christmas. 2005 will be the time to paint them.

Ryan, you're in luck! You don't have to buy one of those kits. Academy doesn't make a Tiger I Late with interior (or without). They only have the early and mid production models.

Sorry.

I'm sorry, Nuno, but I don't follow that. Are you saying that David Parker was given a Trumpeter Morser to build?

Captain Caveman, think of it as a giant, slow, indirect-firing tank. We can't have enough Karls! Karls and Mausen.

Who needs kits of inconsequential vehicles like Israeli Centurions or an early war Sherman M4A1s when there are German vehicles that were never completed, or fired three times? Tongue [:P]

ROFL! Nice point Larry. I would probably do some very underhanded things for an Israeli Centurion kit. Or a Zoltam, or a Nagma Shot, or a ....

I don't know about anyone else, but I was kinda ticked off that two railroad guns won armor kits of the year. Just kinda seems like when Metallica lost Heavy Metal band of the year to Jethro Tull in 1988.

No more of these mega kits for me for a bit , I did like building the gerat 60 even though it is drastically inaccurate, but it does look kool in my case and is actually pretty easy to build , ( the parts are just huge , all of them ), I would like the munitionschlepper though , they should release that for us first run gerat suckers !

ANyone have any idea of when it's supposed to be released? I know the Trumpeter one is sometime around August, and personally I've been waiting for that one for a while, but if these two are comming out at around the same time, I'd rather get the Dragon one for the extra vehicle included. I'm dying to get this kit, as it will be a year project for me to build a dio for it. I've allready started gathering some other ktis that will be in it, and my main reason for being excited is that my gf actually agreed to give modeling a try and work on this one with me. Smile [:)]
