Completed small AFV GB - Willy`s Jeep
Posted by Daveash on Saturday, May 1, 2004 2:59 PM
Here are some pics of my completed Tamiya "Willy`s Jeep. The build and finishing went very well apart from the decals (should have used more gloss before applying them). However, at the very end, I was masking the windscreen and somehow I managed to pull off part of the star decal with the tape. I had no spares and didn`t want to start over so I added some battle damage to cover it. I hope this does not wreck my model.
I also added accessories from Tamiya and Italeri and although you can`t see it I detailed the engine compartment.

Comments and advice welcome

Very nice. The weathering is great. The damage to the decal is covered nicely as well.

What kind of damage is that? and How did you do it? I like the garden background. I think that the expression of the driver is a classic kodak moment. THANKS
and, I am glad you participated in the GB

I drilled 2 holes in the bonnet (hood for US) and tried to simulate bullet holes and the subsequent oil leak and heat effects. Maybe even a small fire after the impact. As for the driver, I am still experimenting with oil paints and his expression is straight from Tamiya.
Thanks for the replies

The damage is very cool, makes it look even better. You should have put a large hole where that was so you could see parts of teh engine.

Daveash,,,, I agree with Jon,, If you hadn't mention it I would have been none the wiser that an accident had occured with the sticker. Looks awesome. Did you seal the sticker after you put it on?? That might have prevented the sticker from coming off. Normally I seal it again with future which is what I put down before I put the sticker on.

I only applied a very thin dull coat over the whole model after applying the decals. I will have to work on my decal technique.
Thanks for the replies.

Thanks for the replies. I am going to re-do the tyres as the mould line is very obvious in the pics. I will re-post when I have fixed it.

Your Jeep looks GREAT! The battle damage was the perfect cover-up and it too looks great.
I believe that you did detail the engine because I know that there is a lot of room for detailing under that hood.
Trevor Where am I going and why am I in this handbasket?

Dave,

Looks like you did everything right to me! I probably would've left the chipped paint (decal), but I like your solution better. Probably damage to the carb and a resulting fire. VERY nicely done. The pose is great to for the driver, he's proud of his purple heart jeep! (paint one for the jeep on the side panel behind the driver's seat!)

Anyhoo, good job, well done!
