Jagdpanzer IV Lang and Mathilda III (PICS!)
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, May 3, 2004 1:31 AM
Hello all..

Well, they're done, except for a coat of flat for the Mathilda..

The Jagdpanzer IV is the Hasegawa 1:72 kit and the Mathilda III is the 1:76 from Fujimi (at times I couldn't tell where the kit ended and the flash begun). Both painted with Tamiya acryllics using my new (got it a day or two after) Revell masterclass airbrush (i.e. a T&C Vega). Weathering is a mix of postshading, black oil wash and pastels. This is the first time I've used a double action airbrush in anger, by the way, so bear with me.

And the Mathilda:

Awesome ! Thumbs Up [tup]

Great job, great camo on the Jagdpanzer and great dust on the Matilda.

That's great airbrushing on something that small ! Is it that good of an airbrush or is it the skill of the user ?

Looks good !

Thanks all..

The dust on the Mathilda is a mixture of brown, yellow and white pastels covering up some tamiya dark earth which started to spatter after my can-o-air(tm) expired. so I though, what the heck. I had already botched one paintjob (which was, ofcourse, better) on it. For some reason (not enough pressure?) the paint didn't mist very when I tried to do a dust coat. Probably just as well, I suppose.

To be honest, the Jagdpanzer is my favorite of the two, which isn't quite fair towards the Mathilda, though I could've done the ambush spots a bit better (finer, more frequent).

I'm very happy with my new airbrush. After a moment to get used to it I was painting lines I'd worry about doing with a normal brush. Well worth the extra time to clean it. It does, however chew vast amounts of air compared to ye olde oxen wagon of a single action I have (and use for large area painting).

very impressive. The detail, considering the size of the models, is outstanding, and the paint job is very nice as well. Great job Big Smile [:D]

Beautiful work Michael Smile [:)]

I've built that Jagepanzer myself and I must say that the airbrush work on yours lokks great (I brush painted mine).

The Matilda is really nice too, you did a great job on the weathering and there's something really fun about early war British tanks. They're kinda ugly but they've got so much character, Iove 'em!

Excellent work Michael, nice to see some different subjects. Great job on the weathering.

Ron, it would be nice just to see a Jagdpanzer let alone ride in one.

Michael,
i was thinking to my self: "OUCH! Pzkpfw IV roadwheels in 1/72!!"
oh the pain!
then i was looking at the wheels closely.
is it the weathering, or are the front two on the left a different style than the others?
i am not trying to nit-pick, just curious.
great job w/ the airbrush & weathering.

They are indeed different. The Jagdpanzer IV had so much weight over the front set of roadwheels (same gun as the Panther, I think. Must check achtung-panzer.com) they had a different, rubber cored construction to be able to handle the extra strain. Well, according to the instruction leaflet history section..

Once again all, thanks for the kind words. Its with everyones guidance here that I was able to progress so much in my building and finishing. Just compare the Panzer IV and Jagdpanzer in my sig piccy. There's 3 months of FSM forum between the two..

Micheal,
You continue to provide the some of the best weathered armor I have seen. After (if ever) I finish these monster builds I am hitting the pile of 1/72 I have building up.
The quality you display is certainly setting a standard for which to aim.
Thanks for sharing.
