Matt - thanks, I appreciate it - actually had this post written up twice before but didn't post it because it sounded too much like I was blowing my own horn . And you're right - it is nice to be recognized when you've put in a lot of effort

Dwight - thanks - like I said before - we must be doing something right -there's also a lot of nice models around here that haven't gotten awards as well

Thanks again guys

Another tip Steve Zaloga talked about - there is actually a brush conditioner ( again that fine art painters use ) that is made for natural hair brushes. It protects the shape of the brush and actually "conditions" the hair if the brush

Kongratz, Jim. Certainly a well deserved win. This place is really getting crowded with awards and trophies.

Congratulations Jim. I liked your Firefly a lot when you posted it before, and I am glad you got recognition for it. Don't be shy about sharing either, I love hearing how people went in comps, and what they saw there too.

Thanks for the congrats !

LQ - thanks - so yeah, maybe some of the knowledge around here is sinking in

Styrene - thanks, nice to say but there was some good stuff

Ausf - thanks, what he said was he uses vallejo acrylics for his hand painting - Tamiya for airbrush. The flow enhancer is actually a retarder that slows the drying of the acrylic so it spreads better. It is available in most art supply stores (cheaper)because it is used all the time for fine art painters

Jeeves - it was pretty darn close to me - I know your in the Saratoga Area. Lots of planes ! More planes than armor and tehy were very nicely done planes.

Erush - thanks - A couple of nice Stuarts and a couple of Shermies - I didn't think it was going to happen

zokissima - thanks - had entries from Ottawa and Montreal !

Sherm - thanks - I appreciate it !

J-Hulk - thanks - not quite ready for those shows in Japan

Bill - thanks - you're right - You have to blow your own horn every now and then - can't do it too much, though, you don't want go blind !

Thanks again

Way to go, Jim. What do you mean "sorry for blowing your own horn"?? Who else would have let us know? You did a great job, and we, your modeling buddies, deserve to know about it!! Thanks

Congrats.

You guys in the US are very lucky. There seems to be precious little happening here in terms of competitions/shows. God, I really should join a group or something Smile [:)]

NorEastCon 2004 - Grateful to come away w/ second
Posted by Build22 on Tuesday, May 4, 2004 5:41 AM
Went to NorEastCon 2004 over the weekend ( wasn't very far from my house)

Saw some great models and met some nice people (sorry no pics - batteries on the digital camera ran out )

I entered my firefly from the sherman group build - allied armor before 1946 - closed top. There were alot of great entries - (actually thought almost all of them were better) I did end placing second though

Big deal of the day - attended a seminar by Steve Zaloga on how to paint armor models - that was darn useful.
..................Best tip he had - flow enhancers for hand painting w/ acrylics

Sorry to blow my own horn - I've learned a lot hanging out here - just wanted to share a little sucess w/ fellow FSMers.

Jim
