WIPW.....MODEL EXPO EXIT
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, May 4, 2004 12:44 PM
Bill,
I just got an email in response to a letter I wrote concerning The Tiger Switcharoo from last week...
They are no longer dealing with plastic, that's the Tamiya purge. They will now concentrate on wooden models and tools.
Or maybe their evil plan just backfired.

Thanks for that info. That's different from what they'd said before. They have carried all sorts of plastic in the past. Heller, Lindberg, Revell, I even bought a couple of CMK figure sets at one point. They announced they were dropping all their plastic lines EXCEPT Tamiya and would continue to carry the full Tamiya line. SURPRISE! I don't think their "plan" backfired. I guess they just decided to drop Tamiya, too. (Their Tamia prices weren't normally the best i-net prices around!) But I'm kind of sorry to see them drop it all. They do have some pretty terrific prices on wooden ship models vrs. retail. I wish their shipping method was faster, though!! I hope you wound up getting something you wanted out of the deal. I'm sorry to have gotten your hopes up only to have them dashed on the rocky coast of retail salesmanship!

Thanks for the info.

Well Bill,

You live in Utah right? That's way past the Mississippi river someplace isn't it? Trough the cheddar curtain and beyond?? I'd imagine that's why it takes sooooo long for you to get stuff. lol.
I'll miss the somewhat exotic at times plastic offerings also from Expo.

Hey, come to think of it, Tamiya started as a wooden ship model company that went plastic and made it big with great customer service.
This move is like reading Mr. Tamiya's book backwards.

I wish they still did 1/144 white metal biplanes. I haven't been able to find them anywhere else.

Ausf,

I think Ron's onto something - You may be the victim of "GEOGRAPHIC DISCRIMINATION"

Problem is - you're not from Utah

Ex18B,
Listen brah....I'll trade you in a second. Remember I tasted the good life there. You would be hard pressed to find me above water back then. If I was still there I wouldn't even know what the internet was...I had no TV, barely electricity and no door locks, but that was the Big Island. I'm sure it's changed, besides the lava.
You pay airfare and I'll bring every kit you want....
