                        The other night I was asleep in my room when my cat meowed at the door of my room to get out. I heard him, but due to lazyness... didn't budge. After 10 minutes of random meows, my cat took action.

                        He jumped on my workbench and began rubbing against models I had on it. I awoke suddenly to a large CRASH!!! The cat knocked down two airplanes I had on display, and a tank I was working on.Angry [:(!] After I sprang up out of bed I flicked on the light, looked at the damage, and threw the cat out (literally).

                        Luckily nothing but a few broken antennaes on the aircraft. As for the tank... the treads broke apart, the machine gun on top broke off, and the fuel barrels on back busted off.

                        As I sat in anger, I remembered when a model plane of mine was on display at a Remembrance Day ceremony. A kid picked it up, dropped it, and it smashed into a humdred un-recognizable peices.

                        I feel lucky, all my cat does is knock down my plastic green army men. They always look like they've been in a huge fire fight.

                        I get paranoid whenever my cat is in my room, he's jumped up on my workbench (well...desk) tons of times and rubs up against my models, paints jarrs of thinner and all that stuff, he even chewed up one of my brushes!


                        Look at those evil eyes....hmmmmm...

                        heh, some guys on the trains.com forums had the similar problems; appartly cats like to paw at the trains Shock [:O]. they say cyan/cean (somthing like that) works to keep them away. I don't have cats, just fish, and thye don't give me any trouble. (if i found them attacking my models i would begin to worry) Big Smile [:D]

                        Can you say BBQ cat? Actually I like my cats and they have been pretty good putty-tats. I just remember to shut my hobby room door every time.

                        well, my cat who died last july, was too old and senile to care about anythingin my room except for the bed. he was 17 years old when he died, and I never really modeled too much before that. my little bro, knows he can't touch my models, and that about covers all my hazards!!! Smile [:)]

                        um... ya , that would be Cyan as in cyan pepper. same stuff that comes in our OC/ (pepper) spray. Knowing what this feels like being sprayed in my face I think I could say it would do a good job keeping the kittens away. just dont rub your face after handling the model.... AND WHAT EVER YOU DO DONT GO TO THE REST ROOM WITHOUT WASHING YOUR HANDS FIRST!!!!!!! bad bad bad..... still have nightmares...

                        Forget the cats, I had a Parrot. He would grab anything he could and that little monster could fly where he wanted. I wasn't building back then, but I once came home to a pile of formerly very expensive German pencils. He opened a box on my drafting table, proceeded to 'shell' the pencils like a peanut, and then actual fell asleep right there holding one. He couldn't talk his way out of that one, the little.....

                        I'm with you Gino, the worst my Lab does is nudge my arm when he wants some attention.

                        The only thing our cat ever did was chew on was a propeller I'd til then unknowingly dropped on the floor.My main grief comes from my two ferrets.Sometimes I bring some modelling stuff to a coffee table in our lounge room so I can sit on the floor and model and watch TV. [Best not mention last night when I spilt some super glue on the rug right when the wife happened to glance over. Caused a great wailing and gnashing of teeth...]
                        What the ferrets do is run up my back and leap onto the table and grab whatever they like the look of,a part, a paint brush or anything and then run all over the house with me right behind .Its all very hilarious until she makes under the fridge where I can't reach. Keeps the wife entertained anyway....

                        well, while i was building the dml panther d, i left the box with all the parts on the floor under my desk. BAD MOVE!!!Sad [:(]it was summer and my cat was shedding like crazy. she slept in the parts box and i awoke the next morning to find a layer of fur on the panther and the various parts. AHHHH!!! i then gave her a box of her own and she hasn't messed up my models since.

                        Never had this problem with my cat. Mine just likes to sit on my lap while I work on the models. Does not want to be around me any other time. Think she likes the smell of the paint and glue.

                        lol, that's an annoyance. I had a model of a space shuttle once, and people kept picking it up while I wasn't at home. After rebuilding the cargo doors, and various other parts on it three times, I just quit. Also, for the past 5 years, since I've built a 1:48 Hind D helicopter, those main rotor blades have neever seemed to be able to stay on it

                        Yeah, I feel your pain too. It was one VERY bad day when I was airbrushing my f-105g and all of a sudden a heard this huge crash over the compressor! I had to leave the paint in the AB, I turned the psi to 0, fliped it to the off switch and ran to my room. I looked out and my cat was running 100mph out of the room and down the stairs. "This couldn't be good" I thought. I open the door and AHHHHHHHHH! THE SHELVING THAT HELD MY MODELS WAS RIPPED OUT OF THE WALL! My cat had jumped on the shelving, with doesn't support a cat (couldn't find a stud, had to put it in drywall) of course when he jumped on there it imediatly ripped out of the wall and catapulted models all over the far edges of the room (7ft!) I was picking up the pieces from the blast radius for that whole day! the models were actually fine, just small things broke off, like mg's and antenaes and whatnot. got it fixed it's ok now, but my cats not going in the room anymore!

                        Feeling guilty, just drove over a cat few minutes ago, definitly dead. hope he wasn't someones pet, looked a bit rough. Have a cat myself, insists on jumping on modelling desk and computer. ..a few puffs from a blower brush and he runs off, safe and effective!

                        I have noticed that cats are a lot slower learners than dogs. Spray a cat with mace, or cyan pepper, or throw it out.. they JUST DON'T GET IT. One hit of mace, and I would imagine that a dog would stay away for good.

                        I agree.. cats and models don't mix. How many times have you sprayed/AB'ed something, let it dry, only to come back and find animal ((cough cat cough)) hair permanently glued to it. ARGGGGGGGGGG


                        P.S.> I don't really spray animals with mace.. however, depending on if I was defending a model or not from animal, or a person.. mace would definitely be something I would consider.

                        I have to do the same with German Shepherds. Best method to date is to keep the door closed and no unsupervised dog help.

                        Cats by their nature are always going to get involved with things and will take an interest in whats going on. Not to mention the desire to always find a vantage point. Usually meaning the model shelf. Some good operant conditioning will work to a point but the best way is to keep them separated from the area.

                        Its sort of like walking away from your sandwich on the coffee table to get something to drink, only to return and find your dog has eaten said sandwich. Do you blame the dog? He figured it was time to eat and you left the sandwich on the table where he coud get it.

                        If all else fails.....the vacume cleaner. Keep it near your bench and when puss comes a calling just tap the on switch. Guaranteed to clear the room for at least the rest of the build session.
