flat coat on gloss finish
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, April 3, 2003 4:02 PM
On my Tamiya T-55a I've been having many problems with making glossy surfaces flat. I first paint the tank the proper colors using Tamiya acrilics and Model masters Enamel. Second I apply washes and Pastel dust. When I try to give the model a very flat look it just doesn't seem to work. I've tried Dullcote in the can, and Floquil in the bottle, and none have work, the flowquil actually made the finish more glossy, and I'm verry frusterated. this is the first time I've had any such problem and I'm baffled.

I use Model Master Flat Clear and it works really well (I also use an airbrush, but I know others that brush it on).

I've had similar problems. Gloss it up for decals, and I can never get it really dead flat again, sometimes. Sometimes I can. Can't figure out the variables. Weather? Barometric pressure?
Quite frustrating at times.
The only thing I've used that busts it dead flat every single time is Gunze Sangyo's lacquer-based flat. Only problem is, you can't use it over acrylics or decals!!!! (Or so they recommend on the can. I've used it on both, and you get kind of a cool dusty look. And dead flat!)

Some armor does have a bit of shine to it, though...sigh.
