Formations Armor accessories

Have any of you guys tried out this company? I saw a mention of it on the Perth site. They make what looks like some really cool resin stuff for WWII Allied tanks. I called them last week and ordered a set of Pioneer Tools for my Firefly. I talked to Rob directly (pres. of the company, but I think it's only he and his wife). He was very busy pouring rubber (I assume to make a mold). He was still very friendly and took the time to talk to me. Very nice fellow! He said they are about 2 to 3 weeks out on orders right now due to a new conversion kit to make a USMC M4A2 Tarawa tank. He said he would go make my set and ship it out on Tuesday (yesterday). I will let you all know about this set when I receive it. I wish I would have seen their idler wheels for the M4 series before I did the modifications to mine.

Here's the link to their site:

Well, believe it or not, when I went home for lunch, there was a little box from Formations!

The Pioneer Tool set is beautifully cast in light cream resin and consists of 10 tools on some massive pour blocks. However, the attachment points of the tools to the blocks, while running the entire length of the tools, is pretty thin. I don't think detaching them will be any problem with a sharp #11 blade. All the tool holding straps are molded in. The 10 tools consist of:

P1 Track Bar Early Mount
P2 Mattock Head
P3 Mattock Handle
P4 Track Tension Wrench
P5 Axe
P6 Shovel
P7 Engine Hand Crank
P8 Track Bar Late Mount
P9 Sledge Left Hand Mount
P10 Sledge Right Hand Mount

I've bought a few kits from Rob E. and have liked every one of them. The detail and excellent resin casting are some of the reasons that I will buy from him again soon. My next purchase will probably be an M4A1, since the resin kit and an Italeri donor kit are cheaper than what I would pay for a DML M4A1 on Ebay.

I bought and have built most of the M4A1 conversion set for the Sherman group build before I got sidetracked. I'm going to polish it off after my 8" howitzer is done. It's almost an entire new kit, with the Italeri model serving only as a host model, and supplying a few parts.

In one word: Superb. It's beautiful, perfectly cast and the pieces fit together very well. The insturctions are also decently clear too, unlike many resin sets, where the motto seems to be "figure it out for yourself."

What are the part numbers for both the Italeri kit and the Formations set you two are talking about? I wonder if it would work with the Italeri USMC Sherman. Although, I think that's an M4A3, come to think of it. I am really impressed with their stuff. I am going to buy one of their Firefly full upgrade kits for my older DML kit. Big problem with that kit (that isn't addressed by Ron) as I understand it is the suspension, and I think the AVF Club VVSS upgrade may cure that.

ive seen some of his kits before at shows. his stuff is beautifuly cast and he always strives for accuracy. he mentioned to me that in the future he might make a Priest update set (for the Italeri kit) at El Alemein.

Rob's stuff has been the talk of the Sherman modellers world for about a year now. His casting are superb to say the least.

Bill - Many of the lower hull parts are the same between the Italeri M4A1 and the Marine Corps M4 / M4A3.

Happy Modelling and God Bless Robert
