The engine in Bovington's Tiger is NOT from the on in Saumur, It is made up from parts of the original that was fitted to this vehicle, along with parts taken from other engines held within the museum that would never run again, but had some serviceable parts that could be used to make this engine run

Hi feldgrau23,  Yes, Bovington's Tiger (Number 131) is the one captured in Tunisia. As of me posting this today (22/01/2011) the Tank Museum is continuing it's renovation of this vehicle which has been an on-going project since it's major restoration into running order. Some of the present work being undertaken is the removal of the modern fire suppression system which was installed during the major restoration. Also, the museum is having some new "original pattern" radiator fan drives manufactured to replace the ones made up of modern parts (salvaged from an FV432 APC). All in all this continuation of the restoration will be an on-going project to which the museum are hoping to fully restore the vehicle with original/ modern reproduction parts.

I may be mistaken, but I seem to recall that the Panzertruppenschule in Muenster has a Tiger II that is fully operational, and a few lucky cadets get to tool around in it during some ceremony, which is a blast for them. Hmm, wonder where I read that ....

Actually, it wasn't the first time the tank was put on public display. The journal says tank 131 of Tunisia was driven around England after it's capture and made the front page of the local newspapers where it went to.

Anyway - that's the one they had going a little while back - took it out for a spin and something blew or leaked so they brought it back in

Thanks for the links, Brazen!
Good to see it's alive and kicking.

The Tiger II at Saumer runs, I believe. They use it in a yearly parade of some sort.

Tamiyas sound recordings are from a Tiger II in the tank museum in Saumur France. As far as I know its not in working order, but the engine is.

And Feldgrau23! Yes it is the one they captured in Tunisia.

I thought I read somewhere that the French had one at their armor museum or armor school. I think it's at Saumur, but I might be wrong about that

Bovington's Tiger 1 is the only tiger 1 in the world that can still run. There are others out there, but they've been converted from t-34's or t-55's (see saving Pvt. Ryan or Band of Brothers-a t-34-converted tiger 1 is there). I think Tamiya used this one to do sound recordings and videos for their RC tiger. This is the only one I know of that still runs, cool huh?
