getting rid of decal shimmer
Posted by Armour_freek on Saturday, May 22, 2004 3:36 AM
hey everyone,

quick question for you all, how do you get rid of decal shimmer? you know what im talking about i hope. like when you see a model in the sunlight the decal sticks out like you know what. Thundergod spoke of laying the decal then gloss coating and then dullcoating. What im unsure of is when do you weather the model?

should I lay the decals then weather (i use lot of pastel if that makes a difference) , clearcoat then dull coat? or is there a rule to this as im unsure.

Any help would be great

Dave I don't know if this will help but I put a coat of pledge One coat floor polish on that I dilute with water and then add some dull coat to this and air brush it on before I weather the Build this tends to get rid of the shine I also use this coat on around the site of the decals I find this helps to hold the decals on better too.Pledge floor polish is "future in oz"Wink [;)]

Here's what I do Dave.

Apply a gloss coat (I use Future), and allow it to dry.
Apply the decals using both decal set and decal sol solutions.
Apply 1 to 3 coats of dullcote.
Weather to my hearts content. (and I use a lot of pastels too)

Happy Modelling and God Bless Robert

Yes first after the paint is dry and you are ready to do decals spray a gloss coat over the whole kit make sure it is glossy I use testors high gloss for model cars or what I did with my King Tiger and t-34 was if you have an airbrush just spray where the decals are going to be. I Never used the future method but I know some guys here do but it is basicly the same process.then after you have achieved the show room shine place you decals as shermanfreak stated using decal set, I use a product called solveset (I highly recomend)it is great. then let dry over night and then wheather followed by flat coat.and if you want wheather again.

I use Testor's glosscoat first; let it dry overnight then decal with Micro set. After the decals dry I put another gloss coat down and let it dry. I put my wash on then if I'm going to use one. I let the wash dry a couple of days then hit it with a couple of coats of Testor's dullcoat. I dry brush or graphite last. That's just my way of doing it.
