Academy Panzer IV model
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, May 24, 2004 9:38 AM
So I had to stop by the LHS this weekend because my daughter wanted to build a car model. I let her pick out a PT Cruiser snap together. IT goes weel with her Hamtaros.

I bought an Acadamey 1/35 Panzer IV Ausf. H/J for myself. This is the first time I have seen an Academy kit and I was impressed with it. It looks like the detail in it is as good as the Tamiya kit I have. The price was real good too. Not much information about painting it int he directions and very few decals with it. My experience with Tamiya kits is they give you 2 or 3 versions of decals and pretty good painting instructions. Over all, I like this Academy kit. It should make a nice tank model.

Cool, Kurt. Good luck with it. Erick (erock) is talking about doing a "come as you want" PzIV group build. You might want to check out the post, it's probably on page 2 or 3, and get in on it with us. (I'll post the link below, if I can find it.)

Major fit problems on this baby. Way to thick, but nicely detailed. This is one of Academy's older offerings and not up to par of there newest releases. Good luck with this one! Hope you have a lot of putty.

First welcome to the forums!! Sign - Welcome [#welcome] Good to have you with us.

As far as the Pz IV from Academy, I hear that it is the older Tamiya kit. I built two of them back in the day. I didn’t have any problems that I can remember but some of the detail was lacking compared to the newer kits. Good luck with it

i heard the same as Edog. I too had the Tamiya kit and it was an easy build.

I just built that kit, it did require some serious filler! the worst part was the join between the rear vertical and the upper hull, about a 2ml gap. Also there were some holes in each side of the lower hull that i filled in because i figured they were something to do with the kit electronics. The decals were pretty horrible as well, the iron cross was off center and the decals were very fragile.Other than that though i figure the kit is good for the price and good for a begginer like me.
