Dumb Question
Posted by okieboy on Wednesday, May 26, 2004 6:24 AM

Okay, someone asked me if I would be entering one of my models in something called the Nationals. I guess this is a model judging competition.
Can someone take me to school here? What exactly is it and where and when is it held? Thank you Mr. Bus driver! Wink [;)]

That would no doubt be the International Plastic Modelers Society/USA (IPMS/USA) National Convention in Phoenix Arizona. August 4-7

That would be my thought, too. Wish I could get to go to that. It's so close compared to normally!

Thanks guys,

I'd consider going, but with work as it is, and time off near nonexistent, Phoenix might as well be Tokyo for me. There's also the airline luggage factor... Here's a horror story for you:

A friend of mine in the R/C tank club was going to TamiyaCon in California last month. He was taking his brand new Tamiya Full Option Pershing, which he had converted to a Super Pershing. The airline wouldn't let him take it on board and made him check it. You can guess what happened next. Yup, those suckers lost it. So there's this poor guy at TamiyaCon, empty handed. Moral of this story for me: No one touches the tank.

Or so they say. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if one of the baggage handlers saw it, maybe while x-raying baggage, and decided it would get "lost."

Remember that German postman who was going through all the packages and keeping desirable things to sell on eBay? (Your friend should keep an eagle eye on eBay, by the way.)

I can understand the prohibition about bringing it on board though, as for all they knew it might have explosives in it. With stuff like laptops they know how everything is laid out. RC tanks are a different story.

Still sucks bigtime.
