Destroyed Tiger II in the works...

Claymore.... I should have the set next month. I ordered it from my not so local hobby shop that I only visit when I am in Little Rock for a club meeting. I am anxious to start back on this kit but not until I have what I need. In the mean time I have taken this opportunity to get some painting done on a few others. I will post their pics when I fiinnish them.... Your right about the burning. I had intended to show the ground around the tank littered with empty shell casings to support the idea that it burned from a fuel fire and not from secondary explosions. I would just as soon NOT have to model a complete destroyed interior... thanks very much

Burned yes, exploded, no. Liquid gasoline can't burn it has to be a vapor, and in the right mix, about 14:1 Air/fuel. Diesel is even harder to ignite.
Turrets blew off from the "sympathetic detonation" of ammo in the vehicle (sympathetic to who?).

This is going to be a nice one. Your're off to a great start.
Thespalting from the shot entry holes would have had some effect on the exhaust stacks or shoruds if any. They are just thin walled pipe or sheet metal so they would have some perforation, tearing or moved if not knocked off.

Ya know, come to think of it, it wasn't too long ago that someone posted a link to a russian site that showed noting but shot up and knocked out german armor. Anyone remember it? It would be very handy to peruse.

Well the BBQed tiger II is on hold till I get the Aber set for it. I started scratchbuilding the fittings but wasn't happy with the way it was turning out so i popped off all the little metal parts I have made and will be shelving it for a few weeks.... Good news is the D-day GB starts this weekend but I have to work so it won't matter anyway........ (sad, sniffing laugh......)

Lookin sharp gave me some idea's....hey dwight I'm thinking around 8 shermies My great uncle was a shermie commander in WW2 and he said they wouldnt even consider firing at a tiger 1 unless there was at least 5 shermies with em ...crazy.

I read the same thing Kenneth, allegedly, the Germans would put some live tanks among the dead ones. This will definately be different. Looking forward to more.

Oh, now I see it. That putty's going to look good under paint! Yeah, sounds accurate, I've just never seen a tiger so beat up when it comes to number of shots. But your reasons are verified, so go for it!

Armormaster, the red is bondo putty put on to look like the shot slag around the hole. Its actually not as prominate as it looks in the picture. Just a little texture.
As for the number of holes... well I took a small artisitic license here. I read once that it was somewhat routine to fire a round into tanks laying about to make sure they were dead. Also I have a picture of a Tiger with an uncountable number of AT rifle impacts on it. There are those on this model too but they are hard to see in the photos. I just wanted to make a point that this wasn't exactly the easiest of tanks to knock out, and that there was some stratagy involved in KO'ing one. Not just point and fire...... Hope that explains my thoughs...

Wow, lookin good. Just a question. Whats all the rust/red colors around the holes? The holes look good though. Also, I think there might be too many holes in it. I think a shermie would flank it, shoot a couple shots in the rear, and move on. The only tiger that I've seen thats had that many holes was a British photo of a destroyed tiger they were using on a firing range to test its penitrations. I do like the grazed effect of the shell burning a slight hole in the front armor plate, I like that-looks good! I understand that the tiger might pick up a couple battle scars throughout its service, but man thats a lot. But everythings lookin good! You've got both tremendous quality and quanity.

Its good to see that the hits on the front haven't penetrated, as this is where the armor was thickest. That is proberbly how it would have been on the real thing.

You have many hits on the rear that have penetrated, atleast 2 of them are direct hits in the fuel tanks. That would make it burn for sure, infact it could have exploded, blowing the turret off.

Can't wait to see the finished model. It takes alot of guts to do that to a good kit, but done the right way, the end result will be awesome.
