Tamiya Pz III ausf L

If you want a real treat, go with this kit (http://www.greatmodels.com/cgi/display.cgi?item_num=tam35215).

It is one amongst the many "new generation" kits by Tamiya which are extremely well engineered, very accurate and fun to build.

You've enjoyed the Pz II build, which is important. However, once you start a state of the art kit like the Tamiya Pz III ausf L, you'll be amazed at how finely crafted a 1/35 kit can be.

There are other fine Pz III kits out there (your Tamiya ausf M/N is pretty old and shares similar quality to your Pz II kit). DML/Dragon makes a wide array of various Pz III marks. They are generally good builds but all include individual link tracks (which can be daunting/annoying for a novice armor builder -- ehhhhh, the annoying part doesn't go away with experience).

Kurt,
Germans started using the dark yellow paint in 1943 so your safe on the pzr 2 in the grey. Unless you want to do DAK and then they oversprayed or used mud.

Dragon makes a fairly nice pzr 3.

I am just about finished with the Panzer II. I have the tracks to do and that should be it. IT's been a fun build, I'm anxious to start another tank model. I'll try to post some pictures after I get the tracks finished. This has been a test model for me and I can see where I need more experience with washes, dust, dirt, etc.

My next model could be either of the following:
Tamiya 1/35 Panzer III Ausf. M/N
Academy Panzer IV Ausf. H

I'm leaning towards the Tamiya model before the Academy.

What kit would any of you recomend for modeling a Panzer III? I already have the Tamiya but if you could buy any kit on the market of the Panzer III, which one would it be?

Kurt

You'll also find that some of the old Tamiya kits with the battery and motor holes are distorted to fit these motorizing parts.

On a positive note, with Tamiya, you get what you pay for. Their modern kits may cost
a little, but they are good enough to open the kit and dump it on a table and it may
build itself. I've been told this, but I have not seen it.Cowboy [C):-)]

Good luck with your kits.

Thanks Kitbashed for the offer but I don't think it will cause me to loose any sleep over it. This is my test model and I am more interested in the painting and weathering of it than if its missing some parts.

I really like the picture of your tank, very nice job building it. I think I will paint mine in the Panzer grey color. I think some of those Panzer II's were grey weren't they? I bought some MM acrylic dark grey(I think thats what it is) to use on it.

Kurt

I will post some pictures of it when I get a chance.

That's "officially" known here in the forum as a "tweezerpult". And, your not a true modeler until you've lost between 10 and 20 pieces. lol

What part number is the piece you're talking about? I'll look and see if I have one.

Post pictures of your build as you go along, if you can. We'd all love to see them.

Kurt, you are exactly right. Batteries and little motors it was. I have one of their King Tiger kits that has the motorization with it. I think it's been quite a while since they actually included the motors and such. It would be nice if they would retool those molds and get rid of the holes. I think I've mentioned it to you before, but my sig is a picture of that kit, although pretty heavily modified. It was a fun build.

Tamiya Panzer II F/G

Just started the 1/35 Tamiya Panzer II model I have. I have to get going on it, my son has already painted his SU-85 and I'm still at step 1. I was gluing the little round towing rings on the back of the hull when I did a tiddely wink with one of 'em and its hopelessly lost. No big deal. Nice little kit, should be a nice tank when finished.

I helped my son Greg paint his SU-85 the other night. I use a passche airbrush with a 6 gallon tank compressor at about 12-15psi. We used Testors ModelMaster Acrylic Euro Dark Green. We didn't prime the surface or anything, I just let him spray it on. I didn't thin the paint either, just used it right out of the bottle. I like spraying that acrylic, it seems to spray real well.

I have noticed that of the 3 Tamiya tank kits I have they are all set up for battery operated motors. Is that what the original issue kits were, battery powered models?
