The different services place rankings in different places, though the Army and the Marines tend to have similar placing. The air force tends to prefer to place every thing on the front of the uniform. I would guess that they could be easly identifiedon their backs. I am not familiar with Navy or Coast Guard markings. Sorry I can't be more help.
And to answer LemonJello, the easy way to paint that camoflage is to get a small peice of wood, cut it to scale in a square, dip one end into the paint (CAREFULLY! If you aern't careful, you will get too much paint on the wood. Try to just touch the end to the paint, and not get any on the side.) Though you could cut a sponge to the right specs, I don't reccomend that as the sponge tends to soak up too much paint. Anyways, then you just press the stick onto the model. Again, the amount of paint is crucial. Too little, and it will not cover correctly, too much, and instead of printing perfect squares, the paint will pool into a circle and run. Try practicing on a file folder, or a similar peice of thin paper. I found wax paper to be a good practice surface, as it does not absoub the paint very well, simulating plastic. Or prehaps you could use a practice model, or unused parts from an old model.

I'll back up marinemodler, we don't have any patches or insignia except for rank on our collars or body armor, though lately we've been sewing on glimmer/ir tape per unit SOP for night ops...

If anybody comes up with a way to paint MarPat (digital) camo, please let me know. I want to make some of my kits with the latest uniforms, though the old pattern is still in use.
A day in the Corps is like a day on the farm; every meal is a banquet, every paycheck a fortune, every formation a parade... The Marine Corps is a department of the Navy? Yeah...The Men's Department.

The 3 Brigades of the 101st Airborne Division place a distinctive patch on both sides of their helmets (2nd Brigade-Black Heart, 1st Brigade-Black "Club", etc.)

Some good pictures can be found [url]www.militaryphotos.net[url/]

I can't speak for the Army, but the US Marine Corps don't generally place rank outside their body armor and if they do it is on the front flap of their body armor. USMC.mil has pictures of the new digital camo on Marines in Iraq.

Hope this helps

Nuno,,,, Most US units dont have patches on the helmet. One exception is the 3rd Infantry Division. They have the patches on the Side of the helmet. Also the only other patch that may be on the helmet is the rank patch. You wont see this patch if the soilder has on NODs (night vision goggles). Now this rank patch is small but can still be seen.

The uniforms dont vary that much between branches in the army. The marines have the new Digital Camo uniforms and the Army still has the regular camo uniforms.

Best place for pictures might just be both the US Army website or the Marines Web site.

Sorry I cant be of much more help.
