My first tank pics
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, June 3, 2004 3:56 PM
These are pics of my first attempt at a 1/35 scale armour 4th model ever. The other three were 1/72 scale armour. Also my first try at a dio base and scratch building which is the boxes tow cables camo netting springs and rope. I am generally happy with how it turned out. Any coments and advise would be really welcome. I did not dry brush much because i can't seem to master also my decals did not turn out but i was going to paint over them anyways. Things I am not happy with is well dry brushing lol, I made clamps to hold on the extra tracks but forgot to put them on LOL. Tanks to everyone ( especially Lizardqing2 and all the joes in the 1/35 clan) and on this forum for help and all the info that is posted. Again any comments would be welcome.

Excellent job Butcher. Hope it is not going to be the last one we get to see from you. The rear deck and all the gear looks great as well as the base. Glad I was some help too.

Nicely done. Like the tree and the base. Good groundwork. Good presentation base, doesn't compete with the kit for attention and shows it off nicely.

If you are going to photograph outside like that shoot early in the day so you get a nice even illustrative light, or wait for it to be a little cloudy or overcast. Direct sunlight casts some harsh shadows. You could pick up some white illustration board and position it at an angle around the tank out of frame. This white surface will reflect light back onto the model and fill in the areas that are now cast in heavy shadow. Its a soft light and it makes for nice illustration work on the piece being photographed. Otherwise you could get really elaborate and make a photo tent (doesn't have to be big, just enough to cover the area or table top you are shooting in) from thin white fabric that you can set up over your model and shoot under it. Again its a softer, more even light that is bright enough to shoot but soft enough that there are no harsh shadows thrown.

Which kit is this?

I have a digital camera but cant use for macro pics this was a 35mm then scanned. The kit was Tamiya Panzer Kampfwagen IV Ausf.D. Thanks again.

Sign - Ditto [#ditto] Very nice!

What did you use for the base? Did you actually do some woodwork, or is that a picture frame or something?

Thanks again
I got the base at Michaels's craft store unfinished. It was $4.99 but they have that 40% off coupon. Stained it Mahogany and applied three coats of Polyurethane (thanks to all the tips in the dio section lol).
Oh yeah the stain is old farm country Mahogany. It looks a little different than a regular mahoany stain.

Very nice work Butcher. You did a great job on the damaged fenders, I like that.
