I use MM enamels and paint the metal barrels exactly the same way as the rest of the model.

Can't speak to acrylics.

Doesn't hurt to prime the model first with primer suitable for metal. I've found that acrylic paints adhere a little strangely when they go on metal barrels.

I just painted my first one ever with MM acryl. Looks okay, but it has a small chip on the underside. I'm planning another coat so we'll see. I didn't prime this one, guess I'll find out if that's a mistake or not.

I use Tamiya acrylics ...... and just paint it along with the rest of the kit.

No problems so far.

Eduard, Jordi Rubbio, ARMO, it doesn't matter which - I pick mine up from any online stores or the LHS.
