Tamiya panther with zim sheets?
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, June 5, 2004 10:12 PM
Well I was going through my LHS today and on one of the armor shelves was a new looking tamiya panther. Ok, I'll have a look. Apparently its a Tamiya panther gone italeri style! It had included zim sheets! Anybody seen this kit in there LHS?

If it was the early G kit I built it for the Panther build. The PE zim is allright but to me looked to consistant over the whole thing with no damage to it or anything like that. It was also a rather good challenge getting it on because the pieces are pretty big for most of it and best way I found to put it on was to put a little glue under it at a time. It also had gaps here and there between sections. All in all though it was a nice kit with minimal problems , biggest was having to modify the breech area to get it to fit right.

Is it the one in a black box instead of traditional white?

Zim isn't easy either way you look at it, I've never done sheet zim, but I think it would be way easier than putty and would definantly be worth a try.

Sheet zim is less time consuming...but...it requires some putty in the right places to eliminate gaps (i.e. Panther mantlet, etc.). I've got an "A" on the bench now and I am using Eduard aftermarket zim. I've also used putty and done it all myself, but maintaining the correct thickness is time consuming. You can make sheet zim appear chipped, and it really looks good. The thing I like about sheets is maintaining scale.
