Field Artillery Modelling
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, June 6, 2004 12:53 PM
As a retired gunner, I have a interest in building Field Artillery systems. It is very difficult finding quality kits of post WWII howitzers and almost impossible to find pre- WWII kits. It took me almost 25 years to find a model of the M-102 Howitzer (thank you AFV Club). I would like find an M-198, my last gun. Any hope of seeing a model of the 198 any time soon?Cool [8D]

There is no kit of this in plastic. There was one offered in resin by an Australian company at about $125 a while ago, don't know if it still available, too rich for my blood though. I too hope one of the companies out there decides to put one out soon. i would love an M198 to add to my other arty models.

Welcome to the forums redleg334.

There is definitely a gap in the artillery end of armour models. It has gotten a bit better in the last number of years but there are still some great pieces out there that deserve some attention.

Enjoy the forums !!!!
Happy Modelling and God Bless Robert

Hey redleg, feel free to join us in the towed gun group build -- all are welcome. You can join anytime up til July 1, as long as you finish by July 1 too! Smile [:)] Lots of different guns being built, though most if not all are WWII vintage, as you mentioned. Lots of German stuff, naturally, but some of us are building for the good guys too.

Thanks for the welcome. I have a number of towed and self propelled howitzers. I keep them in my office. The towed pieces include the M102, M101, M114, and the Long-Tom from WWII

Having grown up in the armor divisions keeping rain from getting inside the turret by plugging the hatch with my body, if you are into self-propelled artillery, Italeri makes almost the entire range of SP guns from the M107/M110 and the M108/M109 series through the M109A6 Paladin. Add to that the MLRS put out by Dragon and FIST-V by Academy, and you can just about make anything from corps artillery to division artillery.

Those AFV Club towed howitzers are nice. I have the Long Tom and M102. It would be nice to see the M198 in plastic. I don't know how well the towed stuff sells. I still see the Long Toms and 8" sitting on the shelves.
