155mm Artillery search
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, June 6, 2004 2:30 PM
I am in search of an modern day 155mm howitzer model of the type artillery currently used by the Marine Corps and the Army. I have not seen anything out on the market and am wondering if anyone has seen a kit or knows of one.

Thanks.

There is a 155MM out there but im not sure who makes it. I think its AFV. Check out the towed gun GB there are 2 guys builing it, Jratz and Larry_Dunn, They can probably answer ur question better.

Here you go. US Army uses the M109A6 Paladin SP howitzer in Heavy Divisions. The Italeri kit of this is very good. Makes a pretty accurate model out of the box. Revell of Germany reboxes the Italeri kit too. Here it is:

As far as towed artillery, US Army and USMC both use the M198 155mm towed howitzer. US Army uses these as General Support (GS) with one battery, 6 guns, in each Light Division. They are also used as Direct Support (DS) in the new Stryker equipped Seperate Brigades Combat Teams. The USMC uses only this howitzer and does not use self propelled arty. There is no kit of this in plastic. There was one offered in resin by an Australian company at about $125 a while ago, don't know if it still available, too rich for my blood though.

Here it is in real life:

Again, add me to the list of modelers wanting a plastic 1/35 M198! I hope one of the major kit makers will put this important modern weapon out on the shelves someday.

I'd like to see the 198 in 1/72 scale as well. I'm also still waiting for an M109 Paladin in 1/72 scale. If they can make the Panzerhaubitz Pz2000 why not a Paladin? What about an AR 90 British SP Gun? They have the Russian Gozdika 2S1 SP Gun out, why not the other two? I just don't get it! It's the same mystery as to why they went from the 1/72 scale T 62 tank to the 1/72 scale T 80 Tank, totally bypassing the T 72! I'll never understand that!
