Scratchbuilt Panther! Almost complete- PICS!!!!!
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, June 7, 2004 11:13 AM
Well most know I built a scratchbuilt 1:70 scale tiger 1. That was built out of the thin cardboard from DML infantry boxes. But now, my newest scratchbuilt project, is a panther. So it's the same-1:70 scale and I used the same materials-cardboard and CA, but this time I used some balsa wood for the barrel. All comments are welcomed! Now onto the pics!Big Smile [:D]

I just made up the paint scheme and unit number. I wanted to have fun with it, so I really didn't look up actually tanks.Blush [:I]

A close up of the turret and upper hull. Did I get the turret shape right?

A side view, I glued the wheels on wrong, so I got to go back and fix it, but I'm on my way...

So what did you think? All comments are welcomed! Thanks for looking!Big Smile [:D]

Most definitely a Panther!
Reminds me of the wooden ID models the various militaries of the world used for training in WWII.

Is a Sherman next?

QUOTE: Is a Sherman next?

Yeah, I can see a sherm in the future. But I'd only do a blown up sherman in a dio, sorry shermanfreak. I might do one without any damage, I'll have to think about it...

Sometimes it's hard enough to build the real mccoy, but out of cardboard? That's impressive.

Looks good Ryan. Nice to see someone venure into other areas of modelling.

Many years ago I did a balsa and Ice block stick model of a wooden mock up Panther based on the ones the Germans used in WW2.

Then I did one of the blow up Shermans the Brits used before DDay. This was made from a couple of carved wooden blocks covered in car repair putty and sanded down to shape. I then used thick ballon rubber stuck on that....needless to say, time was not a friend to the balloon rubber! This was a far bigger project that the Panther as it was not just flat planes.

Thanks for sharing your work.
