Thanks for your info, claymore68. So the balloons were tethered to the ships as I thought. The Germans had only 2 aircrafts there?, what a pity!.

Anyway, couldn't the luftwaffe fly above those balloons and blow them off first? Smile [:)]

The ballons were tethered to the ships. They serve dual purpose:
1) Low flying AC get tangled in the tethers and looses wings etc. Dead [xx(]
2) AC flying high and slow enough to shoot down the ballons are PRIME targets for AA gunners. Dead [xx(]

OH! doesn't really matter, the Germans got 2, yes only 2 AC over the beaches! Big Smile [:D]Tongue [:P]

Looks like another plastic monster to add to the wish list.
A day in the Corps is like a day on the farm; every meal is a banquet, every paycheck a fortune, every formation a parade... The Marine Corps is a department of the Navy? Yeah...The Men's Department.

ModelManiac Those held steel cables between them and the ground, so if the infamous luftwaffe tried to stafe the beaches their wings would get ripped off. Evil [}:)]

Thanks for the info and the link, zokissima. It's the first time I heard about Trumpeter's LCM-3 and it seems to be better than Italeri's.

BTW, I watched D-DAY on Discovery channel and saw a lot of balloons among the thousand ships. What were they for?, to hinder German aircrafts?.

Looks a cool kit, I wonder if it’s the same moulds as the Italeri one?

Great Models is showing a projected delivery date of July 1.

Man, is that Verlinden job expensive! Difference between injection molded and resin, I guess!!

Looks like Trumpeter is really stepping it up. With the way they are running, and DML right alongside, looks like the other T is slowly falling behind.

It really does look like a nice kit. Should definitely be used in some dio. Can you imagine a beachead dio with a couple of these unloading men and armour. That`d be pretty impressive.

Never wanted to do a landing craft very much, but this could change my mind. Thanks for the link.
