Anyone ever built an m-46?
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, June 9, 2004 9:48 AM
I just got an M-46 tank with my most recent d-day vessel, and it came with a 1/125 scale m-46 tank. I was wondering if anyone else has built one of these, in any scale before? Why arent they more popular?

Thank you
regards,
Marc

This is a fairly popular tank. It was a direct decendant of the T26E3/M26 Pershing tank of WW2 (up engined). There have been several kits of this tank in numerous scales. Besides the Lindberg one you mention, Lindberg also did a motorized 1/32 scale one as well as a rubber band powered one in 1/64 scale. The both were available throughout the 1980s. The 1/64 scale kit may still be on the shelves as part of the "Battle Field Four" with a Centurion, Patton, Stalin and Tiger.

Aurora did a 1/48 scale M46 Patton tank that was last available in the mid 70s.

DML released the entire Pershing line in 1/35 starting with the T26E3 (WW2 variant), M26A1 (Korean War variant) as well as the M46 (also in Korean War markings) in the mid 90s. They are still available and are exceptional kits.

Tamiya released a superb M26 Pershing in 2002. Cosmetically identical to the M46 (same basic hull and turret). They did it in 1/35 and as an R/C 1/16 scale kit.

With the exception of the 1/16 scale Pershing, I have all of the kits I've listed above.

Sorry missed some: If you also want to count the M47 Patton (same basic M46 hull, new turret), one of Italeri's best armor kits is their M47. It's been around since the late 70s-early 80s and can be found in the Testors box as well.

Renwal did this kit in 1/32 back in the 1960s and it has been reissued in Revell and Matchbox boxes ever since.
