Getting really hard to find a sherman......
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, June 13, 2004 5:21 PM
I looked at three hobby stores today for a Sherman tank. Any model, any scale, any brand, and NO one had one. Not even ONE!! Two of the shops were sold out of tiger 1 tanks as well as 8 rads! What in the world is so good about these particular kits? I have built Tigers, jeeps, an 8 rad, but I dont see the attraction to them. I know the sherman was our "main" tank, but even still, the Sherman is a tiny little peice of tin compared to others, ie: T-34
Is anyone else having trouble finding Shermans? I only want one tank, my god, is that too much to ask? lol
What was really neat, is this hobby shop I went to that had a 45 ft shelf FULL of military models. It was 4 rows high. They had glass cases with models and dioramas built by locals, some with plaques, others with neat modifications. I was in awe. It is 30 minutes away though, so I wont venture there often.... They also offered to order me ANY kit and have it in by Tuesday, wednesday at the latest. (today is sunday)
Just thought I would share today's adventure!Smile [:)]

Come on now Robert, you could at least leave a few Shermans on the market for others.

I agree with RedButcher. I bought many Tamiya models at 50% off at Model Expo about a month ago. Look around, you can save some money.

I was at my LHS today and it's basically pretty lame unless you're into RC planes, but they had four different sherman kits in 1/35 and few others in other scales. Maybe it's just luck of the draw or something. On a different note though, I was looking at some firing table data for the German 88L71 gun versus some allied tanks and the Sherman compares favorably with the T34/85 except on the gun manlet, where the T34 is vastly superior. So I don't think it's fair to call a Sherman a piece of tin. It's main weakness was the gun, which the British fixed quite well. Off the soap box now!

Thanks for the advice. The models at the local shop are only on average 5 dollars more for me. Besides, the owner is a military builder, and he will get me whatever I want, with LESS of a wait than if I order online, and no shipping. I can get everything usually, and then some. I ordered a sherman and I am picking it up Tuesday.

I do however want to order some Hasegawa vehicles from www.scale-models.com (I think thats the one, made by towerhobbies?) They are 3.99 to 5.99. I want to pick up a sherman, kublewagon, a few jeeps for a project, and a quad gun truck.

yes indeed, the british version beefed it up! I mean, since most are interested in the biggest and baddest these days, I was wondering why it was such a hit..

Check out www.hobbylinc.com . They've got a LOT of models and their prices are pretty good.

There is no way a LHS can be the online prices unless you get special rates! To bad you can't find a sherman
