Great reply by wwIIsoldier aka Mark so I can only add that I have recently made a Tiger II which has the same basic colour scheme as the Tiger I, obviously depending on year and theatre of war. All tanks came from the factory sprayed in a base yellow colour and the the units added camoflage upon delivery. Most in Europe used a three colour (yellow, brown,green) system making sure to mask corners, jagged edges etc. Tamiya make a yellow spray can but be sure to atomise it before spraying (stand in hot, not boiling water for 5-10 mins) or it can be a bit 'rough'. For the brown and green you will need to get hold of a small spray gun as hand painted you will be dissapointed and it looks bad if I'm honest. Numbers are:-
Tamiya TS-03 Dark Yellow
Tamiya XF-61 Dark Green
Tamiya XF-10 Flat Brown (looks very much better than Red Brown)
I started with the spray cans but found I needed loads so changed to a spray gun (1/16 scale).

Yes, Thundergod have a very beautyful model, but it is a late Tiger I, and the early Tiger didn't have that camo scheme.

The early Tigers were painted grey in the begining, later they did get some camo.

Bovington tank museum have just finished restoring their early Tiger I from Tunisia.
Maybe it can inspire you, here are a couple of pics. Some of the pics may be Captain Caveman's, I hope its allright I put them here Captain Caveman.

Sorry for that, I didnt realise it was late. My mistake. That is an awesome tiger monrad posted, as you can see, camo isnt necessarily all that they used on the tiger. A much simpler paint scheme can get you just as nice of results.

nice, thanks guys. i think i will try either the field green or the panzer grey colors as a change of pace for me. i did a panzer IV in panzer grey that turned out really good so we'll see.

Its ok that is what they are there for. I actualy di not like this particular paint job but I have got nothing but good remarks from it. Must be that one hit wonder thing. hehehe.And as Monrad said it is indeed a Late Tiger I. You can prettymuch look at the two and see the differances. And by the way I beleive that is the only fully running Tiger in existance.

The only Tiger I. I think there is a Tiger II somewhere, also.

trailer; I don't think the German's ever painted a Tiger in a solid green color. Towards the end of the war, it's possible the used green as a primer as they were using about anything they could get their hands on. But an early should be either solid fieldgrau (field grey) or dunkelgelb (dark yellow). The units in the filed in Africa added some brown or green camo, I believe.

Tiger I Early I would go with Schwartzgrau and for later versions, the tri-color. I concur with Bill, I don't think they would have a green base either. They stopped producing the Tiger in August of 1944. This was primarily due to the emergence of the Kingtiger. Peak production reached a paltry 105 in April of 1944 compared to 2000 T-34"s!
