Sherman question
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, June 19, 2004 3:50 PM
I'm getting back to my Sherman group build project, a Formations M4A1. I love this thing, but the instructions are a little ambiguous in places.

I'm particularly wondering about two pieces that need to be added to thelower rear hull. These are two plates that extend out from the lower hull sides, forming a sort of left and right wall around the rear of the vehicle. Sorry, I don't know the technical term for them, and the kit does not say.

These plates are of an irregular shape, and the lower part of the plates seems to sit in near the axles for the rear idler wheels. I don't know how the plates fit around them, though. It's obvious that the plate has to be shaped by carving, but the instructions don't say how. They just say to carve.

I've looked at my sources, and I have a halfway decent number of them, but no one gets in close and photographs this unsexy part of the vehicle in the required excruciating detail. Anyone out there have any good photos of the rear of an M4A1? These have to be good close-up photos of the rear to solve my dilemma.

I could always just slap mud over it, but that's a bit of a cop-out, IMO. I'd prefer to just get it right. Thanks in advance should you have any pictures or references to websites.
