Nice clean builds there Mike, good to see your work. The guys have given you some good advice on making their detail pop out a bit, so I don't have anything to add but show me more! I think you Panther camo looks excellent. Very realistic. There you go, I did add something.

I think the vast majority of us are here to learn, as well as pass on knowledge. You are in the right spot!

Dwight, Renarts, Wildwilliam, Tigerman, thanks for the feedback guys, I appreciate the remarks and pointers. i will probabaly incorperate many of your suggestions. also Dwight, and wildwilliam, I got your threads on posting pic's. thanks. Tigerman, I built these particular models about 3 or 4 yrs. ago. mainly out of the box projects with a little elbow grease. I do want to move into more advanced modelling. that is in large measure why I have gotten involved with fsm forums. we don't really have any local organizations where you can share secrets and technques on modelling, so this is just a great bunch to learn from, and in time maybe give something back. thanks again guys you're a great bunch. " love the feedback, thats how you grow. semper fi, mike

Hehehe. Sorry, you started it by challenging me to a personal group build. LOL

Mike, nice effort on the Panther. How long ago were they built?

if you are serious:
he put the address between
[img ] and [\img ]
without the spaces betwen the 'g' in img and the right bracket.
in fact, no spaces at all.

EDIT - looks like Dwight beat me too it.

I like a clean vehicle. Yours look great. Very clean builds too. Crisp. I don't see any problem with your aztek. I've been using one for years and have gotten some great results with it, despite the many bash sessions here on the forums. Do not allow your expectations to exceed the brush or your abilities and experience.

My feedback.....and again, its constructive so please take it as such.
The 251.
Drop a wash on it to bring out some of the detail. As it stands it looks very flat. (could be a photo thing) Despite the great camo pattern on it. Which BTW is really nicely done. Where it will really help out is the wheels. It will enhance detail on fixtures of the vehicle like handles, lights, marker plates, equip, etc. I sometimes go in and on angular plates and in some wear areas, use a little pastel dust to enhance shadow or wear, grime build up or exhaust.
A light dry brush on corners, angles etc using a lighter shade of the base color will add illustrative highlights to the vehicle that will make it stand out and also enhance detail. Some road dirt can be replicated by using some buff colored dry brushing, on the lower half of the vehicle. It can really be pimped out with some pastel chalk on wheels, tracks etc. On your undercarriage, if you use a heavy wash of black, with some sepia or burnt umber and then drybrush with some gunmetal or steel, hit extreme highlights with silver and then hit it with road dust with some drybrushing and pastels you'll get that good undercarriage look and feel. Pay more attention to areas like wheel wells and under fender skirts, tracks etc.

I don't know how heavy you want to get into weathering your vehicle but that is a good start. You could go into things like paint chips, stains and wear on areas, some rust staining on metal parts and down the sides of the vehicle with water marks, etc showing up under handles, light attachment points etc. But thats a level up and weathering that is a bit extreme. (Look at pics of Dwight's sherman in his Ambush Dio).

Again alot of this is based upon what you feel comfortable with. Some like their vehicles weathered, others like them parade clean. Depends on how you want to display your model. Reference or field photograph.

I like the panther. Now you no longer have any excuses and you can show us more of your great work. I knew you would get it. Helk if I can do it, I figure anyone else is Bill Gates in my book.

Thanks for sharing.

mike,

I posted answer to your question in the testing forum but you may have missed it.

Insert the link between the signs but remove all spaces and it will work for you.

Mike, I like the Panther camo a lot.... Everything looks super. I have to agree with Ed though about the tracks... Not a big deal but watch out for it in the future...

Again.. Great work!

Woodbeck3, Peridexion, Wildwilliam, Fightnjoe, Armorchris, hey, thanks alot for the feedback guys. I have got to agree with everything you all suggested. even my wife told me before we shot the pictures, they looked awful clean. I need to buy a new airbrush, my aztek sucks, I do plan to come back and do some followup work on these models. armor just does not look right all shiney. I pretty much built these out of the box. as you may tell, these are older tamyia kits. also since I've been on the forum, I realize that history of a subject can really enhance its look. so, my future subjects will be given a little more research. I could go on and on, but, thanks again, and look for future projects. I would like to show some of my problem builds and get some feedback. we're going to be leaving for a Marine Corps reunion next week in reno nv, so probabaly won't see much of my face for about two weeks. semper fi, mike

i agree the 251 doesnt look like its been out in the dirt at all, but other than that, for early builds they are really good, like them.

Mike,
looking good. a few points meant only as constructive criticism.
it looks like there might be camo overspray on the right front tire of the 251.
also the track on the 251 looks like it is defying gravity in the front between the
sprocket and the roadwheel.

on the Panther
(yes, Panther, Woodbeck3 - Panther! :-) )
the tracks look too tight.
are those indy links, or the vinyl 'rubber band' tracks?
Panther tracks were known for the sag,
and typically they touched down around the middle of the 2nd road wheel
(from the front) and laid across the tops of the rest and then rose up
over the idler.
if they are individual links, it would be a major repair
(break, make angled sections, re affix)
if they are rubber band style, you may be able to use thread or fish line to
cinch them down to the road wheels.

the Panther camo looks great as does the weathering & the figures.
the 251 looks a little uniform on the color.
it may be the picture, or it might benefit from a wash or dry brushing.

your post says these are 'early builds' so you might already know all this.
but just in case.
(you did ask for help to improve. so please do not take offense.
overall, they look good. quite good)
:-)

keep posting!

Looks like you're doing fine Mike. My only suggestion is that you might want to splash some mud around the undercarriage of that 251, it looks a little bit too clean under there. Keep up the good work!
