They are called support rollers. The gap should be wide enough so that the center guides (those teeth in the center of the inside of the track) can pass through the gap.

My first armor kit, and I got a question already

Today I bought Tamiyas M41 walker Bulldog, Chris suggeseted it would be a good kit for a first armor build. I did a search and found alot of good info, but I came across something when building and thought I would ask before I mess up. Just above the road wheels there are 3 more wheels( atleast thats what I think they are). There are two ways they can be assembled and then inserted into the hull. One way leaves a fair size gap between the wheels and the other leaves a tiny gap. Which way should they be assembled? Thanks in advance.
