personally I have never had a problem with either one. I just spray right on to the track with no primer and it has yet to go wrong.

I believe the consensus is acrylics. I have primed with black enamel from a spraycan and as of now had no problems.

I'm with Chris, I spray or brush either right on the vinyl and haven't had any trouble. I do get some cracking and flaking during installation sometimes, but it's an easy touch up. That usually happens with acrylics for me.

I used Krylon primer on some of mine. The tracks got tacky and never got any better. Even after spraying a coat of Tamiya clear on them (which wasn't tacky), later coats went tacky again. It's never happened any other time.

Careful with the washes. I used a wash of oils and mineral spirits and the vinyl tracks on my Tamiya, type 97 chi ha disintegrated after about 2 weeks.

Tamiya won't give me any help on a replacement set (I even tried to buy them and they still couldn't send me any) and the am's cost more than the kit. So, I think I'm going to pop it off the base and sink it up to the sponsons in water and make a river crossing vignette out of it and buy another kit and make a new one for the beach base it was on.

I always give my tracks a blast of dullcoat after applying the the base coat. I never have a problem with cracking or washes destroying the paint.
