The barrel lienght change with the J modell..... (5cm gun)
I have this pic in a book....(el alamein) from the pic it looks like either a J or L
H had smoke candels on the rear plate..... (this tank dose not)
M had wading equipment on the rear plate (this tank dose not)
from the angle of the pic we cannot tell the leinght of the barrel..... If you look at the side of of the turret you will not see a vision port in front of the open hatch on the turret side... all of the MIII's had these up till the L went into production. (L production ran from June42 to December.... El Alamein occured in October) based on all of this data, I would guess that this was a MIIIL.... (or Late J it was common to see changes occur while a tank was in production.... ie deletion of vision ports) Dead [xx(]

Heres a bigger pic,

And here is one with the barrel. But the more i think about it it might not be the barrel. Also the barrel might not be able to be visible because of the angle of the Camera and the turret, so I might just have to guess on this one. G, H, or F

That is either a Panzer III G or H. The barrel is not seen because this tank had the shorter 50mm L/42 gun rather than the L which had a L/60 gun. Check out this link below. It's my Panzer III H of the 15th Pz. Div. in Africa made by Dragon.

I've seen the picture before, but without seeing the gun barrel, it's a tough call.

It's an Ausf F according to an old WWII pictorial history I've had for about twenty years.

Famous picture. I am fairly sure it is an earlier Ausf F or H. Dragon make a panzer 3 specific to the African Campaign, but I'm not sure which version.

If the pic was a little bigger we might see more detail.

I have seen this picture before and I think it is the Panzer III, Ausf L. I can't be definite, hopefully somebody can give a definite answer.

To me it looks like It might be a Pz. III Ausf L. or J not sure though. Black Eye [B)]
If you have any info on this please post it.
