Latest build, M1 Panther II by Trumpeter

Here are some photos of my latest build. It is the new Trumpeter M1 Panther II mine clearing tank. I built it according to the modifications listed over at Perth Military Modeling Society website to accurize it into an M1IP hull. I also added a driver's compartment left over from a Dragon M1 kit.

I saw this vehicle over in Iraq, north of Karbala, when I was in 3ID during the invasion and didn't know what it was. Now I know. I plan on mounting it on a base with a map of Iraq under it and a plaque identifying it. Without further adu, the model:

She looks great.The figure and personal stuff really add to the kit. Does it come with that style of plow as well as the roller?

Yes, the kit comes with both the plow and roller. It also comes with lots of parts from the M1A1 kit it is based on. Look at the photos at the PMMS review. Comes with a whole sprue that you only use about half of. No figure though. Figure comes from Tamiya M2A2 ODS kit and MRE and water bottles/boxes are aftermarket. The rest of the stowage comes from the kit though.

Unusual subject! You did a real nice job on this project Gino. I didn't realize we had such a piece of equipment like this in our army inventory. look forward to seeing more of your projects, and pics. semper fi, mike

The Panther I was a mine clearing tank that could be remotd as well and was based on a M-60 hull. I guess they kept the name when it changed to an Abrams hull. Here is the Panther I:

Don't know why they originally called it the Panther though.

Great looking build you did. Even though I am an aircraft guy, its kind of hard not to like armor considering i see it everyday at work. Every now and then i pass by the plow version on the road. Now I just might have to add that one to the ever growing collections of M-1's. Now if I can only find the Tamiya M-1 Abrams.

2 a model railroader, 'the UP' can only b... the Union Pacific Railroad...
the only US RR to enter the new millenium w/ its corporate identity intact .
but if u went 2 Japan via the UP, it was in an intermodal container, LOL !
