A couple of questions on the M2A2 ODS Bradley
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, July 14, 2004 6:14 AM
This version of the Bradley has a large grating-like structure on the right side of the hull, apparently on
the side skirts. It looks like an engine grille, but is in completely the wrong place (the Bradley engine is
at the front of the hull, on the left side). I have also seen this attachment on Humvees. What exactly is this
for - is it some sort of additional armour?

I'm thinking of building my 1/24 model as this variant - what are the other differences between it and the standard
M2A2? And are there any ODS Bradleys in NATO/European-theatre camouflage? The only ones I've seen are in all-over desert
sand.

BTW I'll post some pictures of my progress with the model later, I've done a huge amount in the last week, the interior
is complete and painted, and the exterior 80% or so complete assembly-wise. (Still a LOT of bolt-heads and rivets to add
though :) )

The louvers you see are the Combat Identification Panels or CIPs. The thermal tape on the panels show a cold spot on the vehicle so friendly gunners using thermal sights or FLIR can identify friendly forces in their sights. Most vehicles in theater are using them. They are also mounted on the rear of some vehicles and on the turret of tanks they are flat.

As far as M2A2ODS, most frontline Bradleys have been upgraded to ODS standards so you will see them in both 3-color NATO (from USAREUR or 2ID units) and in desert tan.
