MBT CHALLENGER UPDATED PICS 7/24/04

I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't count rivets, but I respect the darksides perspective of how they see a build, and it does influnce some of my adjustments to a finish. Mike don't be influenced by the Dark Sides temptation to over weather things. Do it as you like it.

These are my updated pics of my challenger tank. I have washed with raw umber artist oils, wiping off after about 15min. then I lightly drybrushed with MM steel enamel. I applied a light brushing of floquil railroad rust for light mud look, then oversprayed entire tank with a light spray of floquil railroad rust. I sealed everything with a coat of dullecoat. I'm open for comments. I do lean toward a cleaner looking finish for just display purposes. semper fi, mike

I'm wondering about the wash of oils over the Future. If you let it cure long enough, it might be ok, but many of the dudes are worried about putting the solvent-based wash over the acrylics, so they gloss the tank with solvent-based gloss, then put some flat on, then wash.

That's what I do, anyways. Maybe someone here can chime in and give you good experiences putting an oils wash over Future?

Well guys the old man has had his nap and thought he'd check his thread. 58 isn't that old but it does qualify you for afternoon naps. Just call it a bennie that comes with aging. Anyhow, rather then drag this out with individual acknowledgements, I will thank each of you for generous compliments and touch on one or two remarks. Larry Dunn, I'm glaf you brought up the cure time on the use of future! I was readt to go gangbusters on the wash. Also I'm not sure if I should go with artists oils, or enamel on my wash? I'm sure open to any ideas on that issue!! I do plan after wash and drybrush to try my hand at some whethering, probably not to heavy, just enough to show some wear. keep an eye out, I'll post updated pictures down the road. Hey Mike, looking good! Let that Future dry for a while before you start applying the washes. Some guys say seven days, but I usually give it about four.

How are you going to create the wash you'll be using?
