What is the best way to 'Weather' Zimmerit?
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, July 22, 2004 12:00 PM
Hello all!

I'm in the compliting stages of my Jagdtiger Porsche. I have Zimmerited it, and now after all the three color camo is done, and now preparing for the gloss coat, so I'll be able to rush an oil wash with ease, I'm kinda scared of oil wash building inside the Zimmerit. I know it won't look right!

Any suggestions, or maybe my concerns are too greta?
what do you think fellows?

I would say certainly use a wash but don't go nutz on it. Restrain is the better part of valor. Dust and dirt (ie light colors) build up too in the zimmerit so don't just do a dark wash and be done with it. Hit it LIGHTLY!!!!! with drybrushing maybe, don't over do this or it looks fakey! Otherwize fade the paint and work it as usual...

Sign - Ditto [#ditto] Kennethc has hit the nail on the head. Moderation is the key. Zimmerit, with all it's little grooves, sucks up washes like a sponge. Before you know it, you've darkened the paint scheme two shades on the Zimmerit, leaving it noticeably darker than the rest of the model. And unless this vehicle just drove out of the factory, don't forget to add some chips, flakes, dings, scrapes, etc.

I will wash my zim with a light wash of Burnt Sienna and Mars Black Oil mixture..with a light drybrush of a lightened color of the base.
