Panther Ausf A pattern

The Dragon kits definately have more detail when compared to Tamiya's earlier offerings. However, the later kits by Tamiya are GREAT, surpassing IMO, everything else out there.

For reference pics of Panthers look at the TANKPOWER Series by Waldemar Trojca. This series of books has an AMAZING amount of pictures and color plates. The books are tough to find but can be bought at www.abebooks.com for very reasonable prices.

hey thanks guys. the tamiya kit is definitely not what i am used to. the dragon kits i normally build have many more pieces and much more detail but i can use this one to practice my paint schemes. thanks for all the help.

The Panther tank fought in mostly every theater of the war except Africa. It fought on the Eastern Front in Russia, in defense of the Italian Campaign and in the battles of France and Western Europe. Go with the dark yellow base and then go with either red brown and green combined or just one of either color.

Kenneth is right on. The D model was the first fielded Panther model, then the A and finally the G. The F and Panther II didn't make it into combat.

The Tamiya A is actually a Late A. It's an old kit and has many inaccuracies, but is a nice build and a lot of fun.

Here are a couple of shots of my completed Tamiya A. It looks real dark here, but after misting some dust and mud layers onto it, it's much lighter, but I don't have any pics of it that way. Sorry.





This build has a lot of AM (after market) pieces on it. But as I say, was fun to do.

The late A could have an overall dunkelgelb (dark yellow) finish, a redish brown, green dunkelgelb camo pattern, or the 3 color ambush pattern I've got on this one.

This is kind of quick and dirty but paint it Dark Yellow base then apply red brown and or green however you see fit... thats about what they did themselves back then... That was after gray had been phased out and before the factory app camo, so its a little up to you... Have fun with it...
